Default engine problem

My idle won"t hold. With heat/ac turned off car idles at 750rpms and every 30 seconds or so drops to about 400 rpms like the car is going to stall out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Same thing here!

Except that it does that after pressing the clutch when coming to a stop. The rpms drop to like 400rpms (like the car is about to stall) & then go back to normal.

It is pissing me off that I have to keep going back to the dealer!
(rear axle clicking didnt get fixed the first time & my 3rd transmission won't go into 6th gear sometimes!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Possible crank sensor problem? Call your dealer and ask if there is a Tech bulletin/recall on this .

I'm having the same problem with mine. Last night it just started stalling completely. This morning it started working fine again. Did anyone find a resolution to this?

When your engine is cold, does it idle at a very low RPM?

Does it happen when the engine is warmed up? ..... or just when it is cold?

Not sure about the Z but other cars have a solenoid that performs a "choke" function. These symptoms are similiar to this device malfunctioning.

It probably needs to be diagnosed by a dealer.

I don't have any mods on my Z. It's a 2003 Enthusiast 6MT

This started happening just after I got the car back from my 30,000 mile service. I took it into the dealer today, but they can't find anything wrong with it.

I've had the problem with the RPMs dropping down to <500 when the engine is both cold and warmed up.

The stalling problem (RPMs keep dropping and car eventually stalls) only happened when the engine was cold.

It is curious that you didn’t have this problem until after your recent maintenance.

I had a dealer tell me once that I needed a new engine (1996 Ford Probe GT). I knew they were full of **** and took it somewhere else. It turned out to be a bad spark plug wire.

I’d suggest that you find a better mechanic. Not all dealers have the sophisticated electronic diagnostic equipment that is necessary to diagnose these types of problems.

Try Union City Nissan or Team Nissan in Lithia Springs.

Thank you for the advice. I've been taking it to Gwinnett Place Nissan, but I'll give one of the others a try.

HEY! my car did the same thing as yours did.. could not hold a steady idle.. turn off the a/c and it was really bad..

Then one day my battery died and the car wouldn't turn over.. so I replaced it(the battery).. The idle has been rock solid since.. I dunno if the incidents are related but I felt it was rather odd that the idle problem went away to.. The car drives much smoother now as well.. That was like back in Oct/Nov..
