Default Final Drive Q's

Has anyone has successfully swapped an older R200V ring and pinion from a 240sx or 300zx? I did some searching and found two threads where people were contemplating doing it, but never followed up with their results.

Reference 1
Reference 2

4.083 gears from a junked rear would be a world cheaper than the $900 3.917 350evo set.

I stopped by the parts department today and found out some info for some R200 ring and pinion sets. It specifies S13 & S14, but if this is compatible it leaves us a world of options.

P/N - Ratio
38100-01M60 3.700
38100-02M65 3.917
38100-03M60 4.083
38100-04M60 4.364
38100-05M60 4.636

We looked up the 4.083 R&P and it retailed at $536. I can have them knock 20% off. That's half the price of the 350evo set with 5 different choices!

A Friend of mine has a '95 240sx that he swapped a J30 LSD into. I'm going to ask if I can buy his old diff so I can measure everything. I'm going to hate taking my diff out of my 350 if its for nothing.

The guys over at 350EVO said they tried the older Nissan R200 diffs, but that it didn't work. That's why they made there own ring and pinion. I think if it were possible they would have saved themselves the coin and bought factory stuff.

That said, before I bought a 3.9, I had a line on the J30 diff, but it never came through. I think the J30 diff is the highest probability of compatibility.

Bingo.....We looked at a lot of options with Nissan Motorsports's help when we first started. ...with racing we are always looking at "options" and there wasnt one that worked. Thats why we went out and made our own.

The Z32 diff is not an R200, it's an R230. The 230 is about as beefy as you can get, bigger than a Ford 9 inch rear end, and will be a good upgrade for big power if the whole diff casing can be swapped.

The twin turbo Z32 diff is a R230. The NA Z32 diff is a R200.

The J30 rear is very similar to the 240sx rear. The only difference I noticed, it is about an inch longer on the drive-shaft side to accomodate an ABS sensor.

We are working on our headers and intake manifold and some other projects
The headers will be designed with cams in mind and will have removable sport cats / test pipes.
The intake manifold..... well just have to wait and see.

Also our front hood is just about complete.
The final drives just keep on rolling out.
They may be legal for GAC in 05.
Cheers
