Default NA mods going on, who can guess the gains?

A couple of questions.....

firstly,
I've been planning to add some 'minor' NA mods to my Z. The critera were
  • Relatively cheap
  • Could fit myself
  • Best gains
So I got
  • Borla TD catback
  • Kinetic hiflow cats
  • UR Crank pulley
  • JWT popcharger
  • Kinetix v4 Plenum
I'm going to record the hp figures that the car currently pushes out across the rev range using my GTech Pro accelerometer/logger, which I have found very consistant in the past. When comparing this with data logged after the mods are added, I should get a pretty accurate idea of what gains have been achieved with the mods.

Now the questions,
  • Should I reset the ECU after I add the mods?
  • How long should I wait for the ECU to adjust optimally to the newly added mods?
  • What gains do you think I'll achieve?
  • An ECU remap is on the cards, but what next?

That's my setup. 25-30rwhp at peak to redline vs. stock Z's on the same dyno, but not much gained @ low to mid range torque at all (due to the dual exhaust).

Before my Vortech I had Nismo Exhaust, CAI, UR pullies and Grounding kit on a 03 Enthusiest. Dynoed with 2 hp more than an 04 with no mods did right before me? I know my car was faster than stock and would have done the mods again but I can't explain the #'s!

Also agree, 10-15. NA mods on this car really just are not cost effective IMO. The thing loves FI though!

I got to drive a Z with full NA mods including cams and honestly I could not really tell much of a difference from a near stock Z. Just a little extra top end pull with a loss down low from what I think I could feel.

what would your guesses be with this setup?

track model with

jwt popcharger
350Evo throttle body
Crawford plenum
JWT cams
TS ECU
crawford headers
crawford cats
borla exhaust
UR crank pulley
JWT flywheel/Nismo clutch
350Evo 3.917 final drive

think that'll break 300wrhp?
I'm guessing it'll be in the 320 range but maybe i'm optimistic?

I think you will get around 280 rwhp. To get the 300 rwhp you can get the Esprit cams and pistons and have TS program the ECU for that setup.

Old Socal Dyno Day post

On this low scoring dyno, stock Z's were getting 215-220. I got 256.

hmm so then I suppose it'd be safe to get the Tilton street clutch/flywheel.

I'll probably wait and see what numbers I can put down with that setup

seems like I've seen tons of people posting they had 285rwhp with jwt cams and crawford package, no ecu, no throttle body, no clutch/flywheel, no altered final drive

I'm a little confused about what people say about the clutch/flywheel and final drive.

Some people say it only increases your accelleration, but not top speed which makes sense. Other's say the final drive will give you 10% more rwhp and clutch/flywheel will give x amount of rwhp so which is it? Are they mainly talking about raising the begining of the curve on a dyno chart by that much rwhp?

I know of one guy that had the JWT cams, Crawford package, test pipes, JWT lightweight flywheel, JWT Popcharger and TS ECU and he dyno'ed an even 279.6 rwhp. I haven't heard of anyone hitting much more than that with a similar setup. I have heard one guy hitting 300 rwhp and a few other coming really close but the were using more radical cams.

As for the throttle body and final drive I am not sure. I do know the final drive will definitely put more power to the ground. How much would it show on a dyno if any? I have know idea. I personally would think the throttle body would only give you a few more horses only with a TS ECU reflash.

272 duration cams, and hicomp pistons would net far more than 300rwhp.

You can hit 300 with 268s.

It's been done with the Crawford Package.

300-320whp is pushing it I think but I hear that final drive helps out alot especially if you have bigger wheels.

Final drive and or a lighter flywheel are not really going to increase power, but they will help acceleration. Power is not the only thing that makes a car go fast.
