So I'm going to be moving to CA soon and need the scoop on how this stuff works. First, does my car have CA emissions already (bought in TX)? Second, what mods are subject to CARB cert? I have Stillen intake/Z-tube, Crawford plenum, UR pulley. Am I ok? Anything else I need to know?

The only issue you may have is the Crawford Plenum, and that is only when you get your car smogged and the tech doing it thinks it is not stock (may or may not happen). Other than that, you are fine. The car is a 50 state legal car, so no problems there.

The plenum is completely concealed under the engine cover (Infiniti). Not like they'd take it off, right? What about the intake and pulley?

So anything that is not stock on the car is a no-no without CARB cert, or just intake/exhaust mods? Is the pulley even a consideration? Is the Stillen intake CARB certified? How pickey do they get?

The pulley should be fine. Is the Stillen intake an open element filter or a replacement for the stock box? The if it's an open element filter it will be questioned unless you have a CARB EO# from Stillen. Worst case you swap it back to stock when you smog. I would think the Z tube would be OK since it looks like an OEM part.

I did not realize that the intake would be an issue. I believe anything before fuel mixture and anything after the cats do not require a CARB EO. But I may be wrong about that ...

The Stillen intake looks very stock and replaces the stock airbox with a very similar looking shroud that even utilizes the stock inlets. The only way you'd know it wasn't stock is that it has "STILLEN" stamped in the plastic.

So as long as it'll pass smog and it looks stock, there's not an issue, then, right?

Depends on how **** the inspector is. Even intakes need an EO# in Cali to be 100% legit.

It probably has a number.
Most don't think about it till the time comes to transfer title or
get the first new car emissions registration.
Personally most every mod I do that is "visible" has an EO#, will have an EO# , or is not obvious to the average inspector.
And of course there are other ways, not to be openly spoken of in a public forum

Just call Stillen and ask if the intake has a CARB number. If so you should be able to provide them with a receipt and they should send you the EO#. Chances are the intake does not effect emissions but unless Stillen has an EO# for the filter then it's illegal.
The problem is that many companies don't even try to get CARB EO#'s (even though their products could pass) because it is an extremely slow process.

Ok, I'll give them a call. This intake is the only thing that might raise an eyebrow, though it looks very stock. Would only take 10 min to swap it nack if I needed to. Unless they remove the engine cover, they'll never know about the plenum and my crank pulley is black, so it woudn't stand out at all.

So what do you Z guys with plenums do in CA when it comes inspection time?
