Question ? damage to transmission case

hit some piece of metal on the highway. took out a small piece of the transmission housing.. it also hit the drain plug just in the right way to start a small leak by unscrewing the plug (thats what i'm hoping is the case)..

taking it to the dealer tommorow to get this fixed. should i see about replacing the entire transmission? will be building up the engine to high HP levels, hence interested if this type of damage really weakens the housing?

thanks

Looks fine to me.. make sure the leak is fixed by ethier replacing the bolt or washer.

If you can't fix the leak it may need to be retapped or something, which would be a huge pain in the ***.. (making sure that nothing gets in the tranny) If you needed to do that, then I would start thinking about replacing it...

It doesn't look very bad. The only thing I would be worried about is the leak, but they should be able to repair that without too much trouble (hopefully). Good luck though.

same exact thing happened to me... weird how something can hit the plug just right to loosen it and cause a leak... anywho, took it to performance nissan to have a new plug put on and the fluid replaced.

thanks for the info, the case is in ok shape, won't need to replace it.. got the leak fixed, just re-tighten the plug.. now just have to replace some of the underbody plastic panels that got ripped up.. rather lucky that nothing major was broken..
