nicely done. Ive done a couple of these and they require some patience when doing. If you dont have steady hands it will be kinda hard to do. Good job with the vaseline on the filters to hold them in place. If you dont uses something like that it will be a PITA to line up the 4 small filters

yea .. this would be my second time installing a shift kit

first one I did was on a '94 F350 Diesel .. $30 shift kit, and took an hour or so in the driveway .. did it one night with the tranny still somewhat hot .. the ***** kept falling out b/c the vaseline would melt / soften since the tranny was hot

but the f350 was a breeze compared to the 350z kit .. took alot longer and more steps than a old truck

I will say though this shift kit is alot better than those older $30 kits ..

over the last few days the kit has seemed to settle down (or i've gotten used to it) .. shifts are still quick under 4K rpm .. but they have become smoother .. then after 4K it kicks you in the seat and barks tires towards redline

also the down shifts are pretty darn quick

checked my fluid .. its just above the low on the hot side (after a 2 hour drive home) .. so might have to add a tad more then it will be perfect

took my manager down the road in it today at work .. he was very impressed with the car and shift kit .. haha .. I love it, its perfect for my DD since a manual car was killing me in atlanta traffic each day

A question here..You mention S-matic fluid for the tranny instead of Nissan J-matic?

I wish I could do this but I got reported to city code inspection by a nosy neighbor for jacking up my car in my driveway to work underneath..

I also have a spare auto tranny in my storage bin of 350Z spares..

S-Matic had taken J-Matics place .. nissan no longer makes / sells J-matic fluid

as for the neighbors .. its similar where I live but I give my neighbors the finger when there being nosy and trying to look what I'm doing

probably doesnt help since I have the biggest shop allowed by the county on a acre lot .. a paint booth in it .. and 8 cars lying around

I found out about the fluid today when I needed to top up my newest project Z.. a 2003 auto.

Dunno who complained and could care less.. Nobody lives across the street and is short dead ended long block.

I have 6 350Zs left [2 out of the USA] ,a chevy conversion van project [sold 1], Infiniti G coupe and an old '87 Maxima project.. stored at different areas of course..

I need to sell at least 3 now tho.. first to go is a the 07 MB coupe [under 5k miles] in my garage here [with OEM wheels]..too da** old for this.

But this is definitely an excellent upgrade! Man...I really want to take it apart and check my VB though. My 4-5 shift is very sluggish... All the others are lightning quick.

oddly enough I have this issue too. At WOT 4-5 seems to slip. Anyone else seeing this?

how the hell fast do you have to be going to get 4 - 5 shift at WOT

haven't gotten in it that far .. so I wouldnt know

also dont know if the vb upgrade touches the top gear change .. but I could be wrong

Well I'm not necessarily taking to redline. But say I'm in D, cruising in 5th, and I punch it, it'll go to 4th, and when it tries 5th with a decent amount of throttle the RPM's will actually jump up, bounce around, then finally settle into gear (I assume this is slippage)

The VB upgrade is doing its job, its just like the clutch pack went bad in that gear or something very soon after the VB install..I checked the fluid level and it seems fine (though the stick is hard as hell to read anyways)

I dunno if this symptom could possibly come from incorrect torque specs on reassembly or what..Open to suggestions.

im not sure ..

when I punch it in 5th it will jump down to 3rd with a little jerk (little clunky)

but if you tap it a little it shifts down to 4th fast with no problems .. I'll have to try the 4th to 5th shift .. but I havent noticed any slipping it all

all fast / smooth on mine

make sure you ordered the right kit, b/c the re5ro5a kit is a rear wheel drive kit and the altima is a front drive tranny. think its the F5re5a(slips my mind sometimes)

damn they must of lowered the pricing then .. was closer to 250 but you had to wait a few weeks in order to get it

so I just went ahead and got it from forged performance

........................

update on the transgo kit

I upgraded my battery ground when I installed my JL amp / sub a few weeks ago ..

was messing with the manual mode and it seems to be a lot quicker now with the bigger ground wire

stomped on it in first last night and spun all the way to 60 .. haha .. didnt grab completely till after shifting into 2nd gear
