DIY - Transgo Valve Body Upgrade
two 4 gauge wires and a heavy duty battery terminal ..
stock ground is tiny and bolted on with two 10mm bolts
Hey guys, I need a little help. I'm in the middle of doing the transgo update.
On the second valve it states, "remove this spring, it is weaker than the other two".
Is that correct??
When I slid the new valve in without the spring, it seemed that there was very little resistance to keep it wedged in.

My 4-5 shift is slow compared to the rest. I don't know that the TransGo kit does anything for that shift. I think the TC lock up is also giving it that sluggish feel.By the way, the answer to your questions is over 140 mph.
In my G with 3.5 final drive, I'm at 7100 rpms in 4th gear at 140 mph. See end of vid...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NL9lRTY8P8

Great write up - glad I got GTM to do mine!

I'm very impressed Adrians07Z. Your write up and pictorial is excellent! I was planning to upload mine but theres no reason to reinvent what is already a great pictorial write up. But as the Titan owner mentioned, leaving the solenoids on saves time. I have a 2003 valve body which differs slightly. It uses the yellow springs versus the unpainted springs from the kit. And it's a 5 check ball design too.
Answer for chimchim:
Yes, you must remove that spring. Transgo wants that new valve to move more fluidly by removing that spring.
I suggest to everyone to order their Transgo kit from Summit Racing's website for $241 shipped. It shows as backordered, but it ships the next day, every single time I've ordered it from them. Since it ships from Nevada, anyone here in southern Cali will receive it in 3 days via UPS. Also I highly suggest buying the Matic S fluid through ebay. There is a guy there that sells each bottle for $6 or best offer, and combines shipping when ordering in quantity. Result is you save roughly 50% versus buying from the dealer. at $12 plus tax per quart.
Anyone in Southern Cali near Los Angeles that needs help or wishes for me to install it in their 350z, G35, or Titan; PM me so we can get to get together on a weekend. I barter for stuff or else I will charge.
FYI: The trans filter is designed to survive the life of the transmission. It is merely a mesh screen to catch metal particles that are a bit large. I cleaned mine with my air compressor. The original pan gasket is reusable IF your car is low mileage. High mileage owners I suggest using RTV silicone when reinstalling the transmission oil pan.

Did the install today and everything went smoothly I feel, stripped one thread screwing the pan back on, but I'll just tap it out a size larger and be done with it. I really like how positive the transmission is now, you even feel all the little downshifts if you're looking for them
. I really enjoy the car more now, it feels so much better... How it should have been from the factory.

this may be a case of too little too late...crying in my spilled milk but...
The Transgo kit was a life changer (at least my car life) for me a few years back and the issue was never resolved... to this day I must admit I'm still PO'd about it...
The TG kit was installed on my car at FP in early 07 (05 G35) and it did not work properly...when it was replaced with another "new" TG unit it got worse...there was no throttle response...long story but transmission returned to stock.....another sad story begins...but not now.
Never did find out what was wrong...and at the time when I contacted TG the person I talked to was cagey, smooth talking and evasive...very unlike their web site I noted....
I don't come on this site that much but today I happen upon a thread raving about the TG unit! go figure...
What is so great about the TG valve body?
I am now a die hard DIY'r and I spend my time doing research and studying...trying to fix my stuff...

Down side, the shifts are a bit harsh. But if you're driving normal under 3000rpms they aren't that noticeable.
Anyone know of a good shop to go and have the transgo installed in los angeles? Checked with a couple shops, but basically got turned away. I'd do it, but honestly dont trust myself..
Or if anyone experienced with the transgo is close by and willing to install, let me know..
inda626, i have installed several of these perfectly. if you need someone to do it for you thats within the l.a. area, i would be one of very few. takes me about 4 hours average, start to finish. you will need to have 8 quarts of matic s fluid ready. also i suggest bringing a laptop so you can connect to my wifi and keep your mind occupied lol.
most shops will charge you about average of $400 labor only, if you can get one that's not afraid to open the valve body. from my understanding of transmission techs, they are trained with the tools to replace clutchbands, etc, valve bodies are rarely touched by most techs. this is why it scares many of them. i usually ask for $180 or barter/trade for something of similar value.
everyone that loves your z and feel the pain of the automatic shifting..... you must invest in this transgo kit, it will renew your experience of what a 287+ hp car is suppose to feel like and gives you enjoyment in tiptronic mode; especially the rev matching models of the z/g.

Hey guys, Uprev just added tq management in Osiris which lets you increase the line pressure via software. People are saying it can do the same thing as a VB upgrade (although it's too new to know for sure)...just an FYI.
You intrested on doing this on the side? I would so ship you my valvebody lol
damn they must of lowered the pricing then .. was closer to 250 but you had to wait a few weeks in order to get it
so I just went ahead and got it from forged performance
........................
update on the transgo kit
I upgraded my battery ground when I installed my JL amp / sub a few weeks ago ..
was messing with the manual mode and it seems to be a lot quicker now with the bigger ground wire
stomped on it in first last night and spun all the way to 60 .. haha .. didnt grab completely till after shifting into 2nd gear
