Nice...I was waiting on this...know what I will doing this weekend. Anything besides decreased mileage and rough idle that a dirty MAF would cause?

Just cleaned mine yesterday, I was getting 16 mpg according to the indicator before and now I am getting around 22mpg. The true test will be the miles I get out of my tank because the MPG indicator in the car may not be too accurate.
So far happy with the results. I have a K&N high flow air filter also.

wow your lucky i get 17.1 mpg and avg 19

So far I have done this

-Cleaned the MAF
-Cleaned the JWT Pop Charger
-Cleaned the throttle body
-Replaced the Spark Plugs
-Replaced the Belts

Any idea what else I can do ? I have an 03 Track with just intake and exhaust (motordyne dual shockwave)

I use Amsoil oil and filter + chevron 92 octane gas all the time

You try resetting the ecu? Have it relearn and stuff. Nothing wrong with your o2 sensors also right? Just some ideas. Good luck.

A clean popcharger will actually decrease gas mileage since the car has to increase fuel to match the denser air charge (in order to make more power).

The biggest determiner of your gas mileage is your right foot, then driving conditions; traffic, short trips, etc.

Car parts are lower on the list, but here are a few things that come to mind if you are noticing a big decrease in fuel efficiency:

- Did you recently add fat sticky performance tires? They will get worse MPG than standard touring/all-season tires.

- Tire air pressure

- Load. Install 200lbs of ICE lately?

- Fouled O2 sensors. Even if they aren't tripping a CEL, they may be telling the ECU to run richer than necessary.

After you reset your ecu, drive like a granny for awhile. Did you reset the battery or do the whole ecu reset procedure? Also, like the butterfly position reset and all those other resets. Does anyone know if disconnecting the battery resets all of that also.

Sorry going ot.

I seriously wish there were pics for this. I talked to my mechanic about cleaning the MAF sensor and he immediately went "don't even think about touching it. It's so sensitive you can mess it up." It pretty much deterred me from trying it. I want to clean my MAF & throttle body but worried that I'll end up messing something up + not having the resets work. I've read threads where people would do these things, do all the necessary resets/relearns, and the idle stays terrible. I wish I was mechanically savvy.

I'm thinking I need to do this. My car runs fine for 2 minutes, then I run it WOT and it rises up around 5k very fast and then like loses power and jerks back and forth then continues to rise... Sound like the MAF?? any help would be MUCH appreciated, this is freaking me out.

btw sorry to bump this old a$$ thread.
