Cylinder honing technique
I’m currently rebuilding a VQ35DE Rev-Up and will be installing a new set of Wiseco piston rings while reusing the OEM pistons.
Before working on my main block, I’ve been practicing cylinder honing on a spare VQ35DE block using a stone hone to dial in the process. I’m aiming for a consistent ~40–45° crosshatch pattern suitable for proper ring seating and oil retention with new rings but I believe what i have achieved is not sufficient.
I’d appreciate any feedback on the crosshatch pattern and overall surface finish to confirm whether it looks appropriate before I move on to honing my actual block.
I would check with @Bolognahammer he's working on a very similar rebuild. Personally, I would use a machine shop as I don't trust myself with this level of precision.
Cheers!

based on your pictures they look very similar to how mine turned out. also used a stone hone. I am by no means a professional engine builder, just an enthusiast who knows enough to get myself into some trouble. however from everything Ive learned and reassurance from shop daddy at my work I think it turned out about as good as it can without a machine shop.
where I messed up was installing the pistons and had to re hone 2 of the cylinders. make sure you clean the hell out of everything and use LOTS of lube.
