Lightbulb Engine swap: learn to burn

Hello all!

Just bought a 350z with a broken VQ. I plan on engine swapping in order to learn more about motors and mechanics. I think itll be a fun project.
Im thinking about ordering a 2jz to put in, does that sound reasonable for my first engine?

Nothing is beyond the average persons ability to learn. Depending on your goals a 2JZ may work fine if you are good with a substantial amount of fab work. If you want to learn with a lot of off the shelf parts then maybe look towards a N/A LS series motor. The N/A is generally less complex than a F/I car.

The principals however are largely the same.

This depends of available funds? A 2JZ will require alot of custom fab'd parts as would a LS. You have the mechanical side then the electrical side. For a first time swap a motor of the same year and model most likely would be easiest and less expensive & time consuming.

Wngine swap are a lot more complicated than you think.

Start by learning the basics and how to install mods. Then learn how to swap. I rather build an engine than swap one. Headaches and fitments are more than its worth.

Just my opinion.

There is only one way to avoid criticism, that's to do nothing, try nothing and be nothing.

If you really want to learn, then ****ing do it.

Sorry, got rather busy. but let me try to get you all in one shot.

Im ready for whats to come, because im doing it to learn more. Nothing will dissuade me, even if it takes a year to complete im completely fine with that.

Now im looking more into the path of the supra motor honestly.

Also ive done a few mods before, so ive a bit of knowledge there. My lexus has a few done to her.

really armt250z, on that last one? I mean forums exist for a reason

I'm not quite sure you understand the meaning of that quote....

I was telling you to ignore the haters and do it.

But I've already done a few swaps and went through all this ****. So what do I know.

What's your budget?

Someone did a 2JZ build on here recently; he ended up sinking a ton of money into it doing things right, only to part it out (I'm guessing to recuperate some of his money)

About 10k. Its either between a 1JZ or RB now. Me and my friend who plan on working on it have settled on either or. Of course we have all the equipment/tools.
