Default Swapping jdm vq35 into usdm 350z

Hey Guys,

I have an 03 350z base model which has a bad trans (grinds 3rd and 4th every shift), bad clutch (literally can't drive the car anymore), and the engine knocks. I come from the Honda world where jdm engine swaps are relatively straightforward, but can't find much info on people swapping a jdm 350z engine into a usdm 350z.

If possible I'd like to just buy a jdm engine like this

https://www.jdmenginedepot.com/produ...m-vq35-138858/

and swap it into my 350z. I've done this process with Honda's before using jdmenginedepot and it's basically as simple as using the usdm wiring harness and just swapping that over to the jdm engine. Could anyone provide any input on if it's essentially that straightforward with the 350z?

Thank you for your time.

Did you ask the vendor?

I haven't asked the vendor, mainly because I'm afraid that they'd just tell me what I want to hear so they can sell it.

Give them a chance. They'd probably not last long if they were continuosly scamming people.

There is no difference between JDM & USA engine & transmissions
The only possible difference would be the exhaust manifolds as there could be interference
with the steering shaft with RHD to LHD but I doubt it

Seems like a lot of extra work and headache for absolutely no difference. Get a US one and be done with it imo

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Can a US engine and trans with ~50k miles be had for < $2,700? All the engine and trans combos I see on Craigslist and eBay are more than this so that's why I figured this would be the best option.

Im doing this swap right now. Have a 2004 6 speed car with a rod knock. Bought a VQ from JDM engines and the swap is pretty straight forward. About the only thing that was different were the plugs on the 02 sensors. Those didn't have the same connection as my cars wiring harness but the 02 sensors were good in the old engine so just swap them out. That is the one nice thing about the motor I bought it has all components on it and now I have a extra of everything. I went ahead and swapped the AC compressor from my engine just because I heard the Japanese AC's aren't as good.

Just disconnect all of your plugs , leave your harness in the car, drop in the JDM engine and its pretty much plug and play. You will have to use your starter as the JDM motors have it on the opposite side. Just got mine in last night and tried to start it , cranked great and almost started but got a no start situation with a P1610 / P1614 code so its not liking the key. My key was not a Nissan key to begin with but was starting the old motor, Im going to have to call out a lock smith today to program a new key I think.

I disconnected the battery and am going to try the reset procedure with the key today and hopefully that works otherwise its another $150-250 for a locksmith to come out, ill update later today or tomorrow.
