Default Rear Hatch supports

I recentky installed a Wings West Nismo Style Wing. Now the hatch is too heavy for the struts. I remember seeing heavy duty ones for this purpose but cant find the link where I saw it. anyone have ideas where to get these.

thanks

Hell, don't pay the trumped up prices . . . go to a shop that sells truck toppers. Have them measure the shocks and they can get a heavy duty set for a fraction of the price . . . If you're lucky, they may have them on hand

I agree with 350G. For one thing, my stock ones didn't hold up the hatch in cold weather with the little stock spoiler. The Nismo spolier is much too heavy. I plan to go to autozone or somewhere like that and see if I can get a set to fit. If so, I will post the model number etc. IF someone else finds a cheep set that works, please post the info.

this is a good idea but always remember, CHEAPER ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER(IMO, it hardly ever is!!!)...i saw a guy do this exact same thing last year, he bought some "heavy duty" struts for his Civic hatch at Advance Auto(they were supposed to be used for an SUV) and immediately after he installed them...CRASSSSSSSH!!! the "heavy duty" struts actually worked TOO GOOD...when he opened the hatch for the first time, it sprung open so quick that it shattered his rear window!! SO BEWARE!!! I'd hate to see one of you needing a new rear glass for your Z.

I installed the factory spoiler a few months back on my Z(since my car didnt' come with one) and it actually came with heavier duty struts. I work in the parts dept. at a Nissan dealership and I just checked it out, unfortunately you can't purchase the stronger liftgate struts seperately. Hope this helps...

I bought BMW E36 gas struts for my hood from pep boys (they had to be special ordered of course) and they cost me $30 each, but that was a special price because my girlfriend's father has a corporate account w/ pep boys. I think the guy said regular price on them was $60 each.

TEIN does not have them for the rear hatch... (woulda been a better idea then the fromt if you ask me...

People who have the Veil Side V3 with, the NISMO hatch shocks do not have a problem with the hatch being held up...

Are the stock hatch supports really that weak? I just got an Impul 933S wing, and that is pretty decent sized. I would say its equivalent to the Veilside V.1 wing. Would my stocks support them or will I have to buy new ones?

If I do have to change the rear ones, do you know if I can put the stock ones from the hatch under the hood to hold the hood up or will they not fit?

Not sure about the hood, but our stock hatch supports are truly weak. I don't even have a stock / aftermarket spoiler and it still struggles in the winter. In the summer, it goes up, but not with any type of authorita

yeah, my friend has the veilside version 2 wing with the stock struts and he has to hold the hatch up with one hand or else the hatch will crash on his head.

I have a veilside one wing and I have to hold my trunk up with my head. The nismo shocks are super expensive (I think it's over $200). I'll use my head until there's a cheaper alternative LOL

I bought BMW E36 ones for my hood, and they are very strong. I have to give the hood a little tug to actually make it go down. If my stock hatch supports wont go up after I install my wing, I will probably install these same ones on the trunk too and then let you guys know how they work. When I open my hood though, they shoot it up like a rocket.
