Black Emblems
Hi everyone,
I recently blacked out my rear and front nissan emblems, as well as my 350z emblem on the back of my car. They look incredible. If anyone is interested in knowing how to do it, here it is:
1. Take a heat gun or a good blow dryer and heat the emblems (to heat the stuff sticking them on so that they can come off). When your arm is tired from holding the blow dryer or a few mins. after you have heated, use a plastic card (preferably not any sort of important credit card) and slide it under the emblem until it has been removed.
2. Take all the left over glue off of the back of the emblem and the rear of the car by heating it and using your thumb to push it off (you might want to leave the glue on the car for the 350z symbol until you have completed the rest of the process, because it will be easier to replace in correct position).
3. After taking the emblems off (the Nissan ones are quite dificult to get off) then clean the emblems (when you take the Nissan ones off, you will find that there are 2 holes left on your body for remounting).
4. After cleaning, soak the emblems in bleach until all of the finish is removed (This may take a few days).
5. After completely removing the finish and changing the bleach out every day or so, then reclean the emblem and begin the paining process. I used a flat black Rustoleum paint on mine but I'm sure there are many more you can use.
6. Apply a few coats of paint (don't rush it)
7. Go to an auto parts store and pick up some emblem and trim adhesive from 3m and stick those babies back on.
I have a black z and the blacked emblems really make it look so mean its ridiculous.

I'd like to see how this came out. Im sure there has to be a better way to remove the finish though than just letting the emblems sit in bleach for a few days.
Blacked out or like black pearl emblems would look cool.

I don't know if the paint would stick to the chrome on the emblem. If you take it off, there is a rough plastic surface for the paint to adhere to. It might work without stripping it tho idk.
