I want to lower my Z, but not sure on how much to lower it. I have a bodykit and don't want to go to low. I'm also changing over to some different wheels, probably volks or axis hiros with a wider offset, so i don't want to hit the tires on the fenders.
What type of lowering springs should i get and how low should i go, front and back.
also, how difficult is it on the Z to change the spring out ?

 

That looks pretty good on stock height. But if you want to go lower I'd recommend the Tein S Tech Springs

 

go inch and a quarter. It looks great and no rubbing so far from me. It doesnt even look that low.

 

I am getting my z in a couple days and will have the stocker 17's on there for a month or two until I throw some 18's or 19's on there, any suggestions of what springs to get or not get? I hear the sportlines sag. But hotchkis gets grweat reviews. I dont have the money for coilovers or new shocks just yet, so I just want springs.

IMO, the Z doesn't need more than .5" (yes, half-inch) drop to make the drop look perfect. It helps to rid of what little wheel gap the Z has stock, lowers the center of gravity a bit more improving handling, and just looks sweet.

The Z only has 4.7" of ground clearance to begin with. I wouldn't want to deal with less than 4" of clearance here in the NY/NJ area.

 

on stock height i barely make the clearance into my garage. But elsewhere like parking lots... mall... I would have to be careful if i get springs

 

you guys need to learn how to take bumps. I live in chicago and im lowered 1.2 with no problems. i know a guy whos lowered 1" from tthe ground and lets his mom drive his car without problems

 

^I doubt that. Being one inch off the ground would mean a greater-than 3" drop.

 

i just installed coilovers and lowered the car about 1/2-3/4"...i think it looks good and is very managable on the streets....i wouldn't go lower then 1" if you use your Z mostly for streets

 

What are some choices for about a 1 inch drop? Prokit is about 1.2, right?

Looks sick the way it is now, but a mild drop can always help things.

it looks good cause of the lighting. you cant really tell he has much gAp there, but its there , just hard to see.

 

Nice Car BTW but do not try and change the springs out yourself those spring pack pounds upon pounds of force enough to cut a limb right off your body without affecting its momentum it's really dangerous unless you really know what you are doing and have the proper tools and equipment you could be severly injured if you attempt this by yourself on your first try so make sure you video tape it haha j/k but yea just go to a professional installer for these guys..........Tein all the way

 

all you need toa take springs off safely is a spring compressor that can be rented from autozone for free. However suspension can be a HUGE pain in the a$$, though I can't speak from personal experience on the z specifically. If you do end up paying someone else to do it though, save up more $ and get shocks too, no need in paying someone twice.

 

I just took off my Eibachs and went ghetto low with my z buy cutting my oem springs... not going to keep it that way but just wanted to see the look. It's not real practical this low... but damn if it don't look great... I'm tucking 19's in the front and back. No rubbing and no fender rolling.

BTW my Eibachs are for sale if anyone is interested. $100.

 

This post made me laugh. On the Z, you don't even need to compress the springs. You can and it does make it slightly easier, but you really don't have too.

Speaking from experience, I would reccomend the hotchkis or RSR srpings. I wouldn't go with teins because they drop the front more than the rear (.7" front .6" rear), which equates to a bit of a raked look. The RSR are the same front and rear. The hotchkis drop the car 9/16" front and 3/4" rear, which is plenty of drop for a Z with a kit. The hotchkis balance the car out and are designed to run with stock absorbers.

i just had mine installed and the installer never compressed the springs really. but if youve never done this dont try it.

 

I've worked on cars forever. I replaced a head gasket on a turbo supra. I've removed my cylinder head 3 times on my Acura Integra motor, and replaced the pistons. I installed springs on my brothers mazda 626, installed springs on my intergra. The reason i asked about the springs on the Z is, I'm not familiar with the suspension yet. Is it just as simple to remove as a maxima, civic, etc... and I didn't know I didn't have to COMPRESS the old spring to get it off. On my bros 626 and my integra,. I had to compress the OLD springs to get them off, but didnt have to compress the new ones to get them on.

Do you have to compress the OEM springs on the Z to get them off the struts ?
And would i have to compress the Hotchkis springs to get them ON ?
