The all-new Aluminum monocque body or whatever in Jaguar's XJ-series was debuted in raw Al, all polished to a mirror shine...that would be hot, but so hard to keep clean I couldn't stand it.

By the way, I thought we were talking about actually chroming panels of the car, not painting with a chrome-like paint. Chroming adds a significant amount of weight, even to rims.
Polished alum. would not add much weight at all.. if anything it may be lighter. Look at the list of cars (high $) that use alum. frames... NSX is one. There is a new Jaguar that uses all alum. body pannels .. and its light for such a large car

i'd like to see a car with it's panels actually dipped in chrome, i bet it would look a whole lot different than the paint
