Default Those of you that want hood shocks and dont want to trim your covers.

I took part in the GB on the 350z site for hood shocks. Didnt know if they would fit the Z but hey Im always down to make things work. Got the shocks and found that tein wants you to cut your battery covers to allow the shocks to close or you can take them off. I didnt like their idea so I came up with my own! I drilled a small hole in the inner fender jamb. This took me all of 5min to do and Im recovering from back surgery. I dunno why tein didnt come up with this idea. Anyway no trimin and the hood shuts great!

So you basically made drilled a new hole to make a new mounting point right? If that's the case, then sounds like you could get some KYB or whatever other hood struts for a little less $$$ then just drill the hole in the appropriate spot?

Yes its g35 JDM. Yes I just drilled a new hole. I think 99.00 shipped is a good price. No need to try and find anything else. These shocks were made for the weight of the 350z hood.

guys this is really so easy it doesnt need a DIY. All you need to do it drill one hole on each side.

Would it be possible to take closeup pics of the mounting point on both ends of the strut? Thanks!

i'm trying to do your fix, and i'm running into a problem: in your pic, there's the ledge the hood sits on, and then another vertical portion below it where you drilled your hole, i think. my problem is the z doesn't have that second vertical portion. its basically the hood ledge and then the top of the engine compartment. i don't know if the hood will sit flat over the new mounting point. also, how did you determine where to drill the hole?
has anyone made this fix work on a z?

This is a G again, but the pics may help you. I had to bang down the ledge above the fender (you can see how the bead line kind of turns in as it reaches the mount point). Drilled a hole through to the wheel well, loctite the bolt and that's it. I tried to do it the same way as the Z, but our hood contacts the strut and won't close.

Also, I test fit it by hooking the strut up to the hood, then closing it with the engine compartment end loose. If the hood closes ok then, it should be ok when attached.
