pick a COOL place, remove all 4 wheels, clean and paint the calipers, and you're done. i did it in a hot garage on a hot day, and mine started hardening too soon to do the last two as good as the first two.
Hey ElGuy... I think G2 is the way to go. However, I used the "didn't plan ahead" approach, see below.
PepBoys sells a caliper paint kit which I purchased along with the Hawks. Dropped everything off at my car doctor, picked up the car on Friday. At this point, I'm still not particularly enthused about the color but red isn't an option because it suggests some type of UGA spirit along with my own misconception that red on non-Brembo=Poser. Yellow is also not an option for the poser/Porshe theory along with my lack of spirit for Tech. Saturday AM I realize the caliper paint kit is rated for 500 degrees. Back to Pep Boys I go. There seems to be some very pretty color choices but none rated for 1200 degrees (or 500 for that matter.)
Instant gratification drives me to the register with a can of black and orange. Here's the shame ...I also have a can of this dark orange metallic flake. I figure the black is the base, the orange next and the orange flake on top. If the flake flakes the orange base will show through. I'll deal with it looking like azz in 6 months. Time to make the doughnuts.
As I arrive home, mentally I'm at the end of the high dive looking way down into the pool. Now I'm lacking the fortitude to actually remove the calipers.
My new plan of attack is to hand-cut templates out of plastic sheeting, tape off the clips and rubber protectors on the rear inside of the calipers. Next, I cut a hole in the middle of a large square (think poncho) and stretch the hole around the caliper, tucking it behind and around the coils, etc. All is well until the plastic starts to curl where it is covering the pad. Also, the spray isn't getting past the plastic covering the clips. I remove the plastic covering the pads and the clips and re-shoot the whole thing. Hence, the monochromatic paint job.
Not sure what the next step will be...
