It's a transthermal, electrocondusive, non-hydroelectric warp transposer!

From a technical standpoint, it takes the U molecule and separates it from the cash molecule, thereby leaving you with less cash.

BhashaZ has it correct. It is found in the hatch.

I was amaZZed at the engineering and complexity of something that has such a simple function.

I removed mine, as did many others here. I really can't see why it is needed.

(wats a horse mount?)

jcn30127: why did you remove it? I installed the INGS half spoiler so my hatch doesn't pop open as easily, so I wanted to remove the counterweight. But when I went to remove it, it wasn't there. Where exactly was it located, since this is the first time I have seen a picture of it. I'm assuming it's the part I circled in red?

I also want to take the counter weight out of my hatch but I am not sure where it is located.. I have the Nismo US spoiler and frankly opening the trunk is a pain in the *** now.

It seems to correspond to the pix I posted above. But as you can see, my car doesn't have one to begin with.

It's probably attached to your suspension leading to tire feathering.

So if I take this out, when I open the hatch with my remote, will it like fly open? As it stands, the hatch just pops and sits there. (No wing)

No, I think it's there to make closing the hatch easier. But without it, I didn't feel any difference.

Answers to your questions:

Mine was here:

Why you do not have one?.......I don't know.

I removed mine cause every time I closed the hatch, it closed with a HUGE slam.

NOW it seem to pop open easier, stay open better, and it doesn't seem to slam shut as much.

If you don't have it....great!

I believe that the weight is there in non-spoiler cars to offset the weight of the missing OEM spoiler. If you don't have the weight then your car probably came with the factory spoiler. The OEM hatch lifts are also a little stiffer in cars that have the OEM spoiler...

Perhaps in '04 or '05. My '03 Track had the weight. I took it out when I shaved the rear wiper. I, too, was amazed at the complexity of the thing; it has it's own suspension! Guess so it won't ever rattle. My hatch still just pops and sits there when opened, but opens easier and doesn't slam shut, as mentioned above.

Its only suppose to pop open and sit there. It's not suppose to open all the way. The problem for some is that they would hit the trunk open button and it would only half un-latch, so it woul look open but still be locked in. This is where the penny trick comes in. (Putting two pennies in each of the springs found a foot or so below the shocks)
