Painters, comments needed
ok; so Ive had a spare set of exterior door handles for a looong time. with intentions of painting them either black or bronze. Ive settled on black.
thing is; I dont have automotive paint and dont know where to get it.
I do have enamel and acrylic paints though. and an airbrush.
which would be better to use?

Hey ares,
Try www.paintscratch.com for automotive paint. I buy all my paint, clear coat and supplies from them. They color match based on vin number if you're interested.

those parts are small enough that just a rattle can would work fine. i would use the enamel if i were you though. a couple coats of clear would work good too to help protect it from wear. enamel takes more time to completely cure so give ample dry time before handling. those parts are plastic, so if you just scuff the silver with some scotch pad and not go through the silver, you will get good adhesion to it. hope this helps.
Ares, look in the yellow pages for automotive paint supplier. then go down and request the paint from them. Give them the door cap from ur gas cap and theyll match it exactly, you can also give them the paint code from ur car. For the door handles i would suggest getting something like ppg dbu or dbc series paint.
32$ for 2oz of black paint and clear coat
if I was trying to match blue or red or some other color that might be worth it; but the black isnt anything special; its just black. any black should match Id think.
Ill check the yellow pages or Ill do enamel; Im not sure if Ill even like it.

yup powdercoating is a no-no cause their plastic. I looked at having them proffesionally done; but they wanted 200-250$ which was just crazy IMO.
Id love to get some 2 part epoxy paint but Ive never seen it in black only beige and gray. Ill check out the ceramic paint.
