am i the olny one with pinstripes??
i purchased my super black Z, 18 months ago used with 2,8xx miles on it. it came with pinstripes on it, the dealers here put them on every car possible for the extra $300.
i was told by a body shop that i can remove them at home with store bought oven cleaner. would i be stupid to try that??
let me know your opinion, nobody seems to notice, but they drive me nuts.

they appear to be painted on. i really don't want to tackle this my self, but the body shop said i would have no problem doing it myself.
i just noticed i posted this in the modification forums, it may belong in the repair or detailing.

I just had some put on my redline. I love them. They are very subtle but I feel they add something to my car. I have had a number of positive comments on them. It is just what you like I guess.

i had painted on pinstripes on my old a4. I hated them with a passion but every shop I took the car to didn't want to try and remove them for fear that the pinstripes had lifted the paint underneath and a shadow would be left behind. Shouldn't be too much of a concern with a newer car, but it is something to consider.
as for oven cleaner - I wouldn't try that if I were you. Oven cleaner can strip anodization off aluminum... I don't know nor do I want to find out what it can do to Nissan's crappy paint.

Alot of people don't like graphics and different paint schemes. I'm not one of them. I like everything as long as it looks clean. So I would like to see pics, and I'll only hate on them if they look bad.

i'm forum stupid, i could never learn to post pics. there really hard to make out in pictures unless i'm completely zoomed in on them.
it doesn't look real bad, just two 1/8" stripes down the side from headlight to taillight right below the window line. like i said for the most part i'm the only one who notices. i really can't figure out why nissan would put these on a Z to begin with?

Painted pinstripes are hated by most people specifically because they are impossible to remove without removing the paint underneath. Think about it, no matter what you use on it, how would that product differentiate between the stripes and the paint on the car? To it, its all the same.
My advice would be leave them as is. They will still look better than would the likely result of trying to remove them.

My car came with them when we first picked it up. It was a dealer trade, and we had no idea that the car ahd the pinstripes on them. Although it looked ok on the car, i wasn't too excited about it, so I had the dealer remove em
STL350--I think I talked to you at the Spanish Lake car show a couple of months ago. We discussed your pin stripes at that time and I think they look great. Don't take them off. They give your car a unique appearance.

my car came with stripes too. I removed them with a tool made by 3M. It is basically a rubber eraser wheel that you put on a drill. It heats up enough to remove the striping without damaging the clear coat. Its the only way to do it that I am aware of.
I bet you could get one at an auto parts store. PM me if you need a pic of the thing.

The "good" pinstripes are painted on, but that takes a real pro to make it look right.
We've got a guy around here who does amazing pinstripe work, he's done 3 of my freinds cars, and he does every car at the local Acura dealership as well. A good pinstriper will also leave his 'tag' on the car. It's usually a small little picture or signature that he paints on somewhere, like his trademark; so that's one way to tell if they were painted on or just vinyl.
I've been batting around the idea of doing pinstripes on my Z, but I really just cant decide if I'm going to like it.
