Before the days of CF hoods. You could get a Fiberglass hood for ~$200.

Now, it seems all hood prices have gone up.

even the Varis has a fiberglass backing underneath dual CF layer...
ur gonna get some fiberglass no matter what especially with the hatch being so big.

the only pure CF one i know went on Axis white drift car. it was so thin it would buckle when you pressed on it..

im sure you can get a fiberglass hatch made.. but it probably would be only a few pounds lighter than the metal counterpart. pure fiberglass is kinda heavy unless they vacuum bag it.

Only thing that will be lighter will be the real CF hatch. And CF can go to **** if you do not have a good amount of clearcoat to protect the actual CF. So you could always just have it coated again. But ya painting it would protect the CF as well..

CF does not really discolor with the exception of hoods due to major engine heat

The ultra-violet light from the sun does brake down the strength of the carbon fiber, thats why you see a lot of racecars that have unpainted carbon wings, with covers over them when they are waiting on the pre-grid before a race. If you want carbon fiber panels to last a long time it is best to paint them.

You referring to dry carbon pieces or cf with some clear on it? I'd like to know myself because that is what I heard so

depends on whether you use the stock glass or not.

Yes, any real carbon fiber (not the fiberglass with CF overlay crap you see alot of..) will break down from ultraviolet light. Painting it protects this from happening.

an all fiberglass hatch would probably be heavier since more material will have to be used while even with one layer of the carbon fiber overlay it re-enforeces the fiberglass alot...

a CF layered fiberglass front bumper will hold up to alot more abuse then a fiberglass... (this goes for a rear hatch too)...
