Default front plate on '06

Anybody know if the front plates on the '06's models mount differently than on the 03-'05's? Looks like on the grill of the '06's, there is a section of the black grill that can be removed to mount the front plate in that grill section instead of having to drill holes into the painted bumber section?

Does the whole front plate mount within the grill? Does it restrict airflow badly?

I don't plan on running a front plate but if I get hassled enough for it, I will use one.

I have a bad feeling that you are about to get hit with the famous "did you search?"....

Anyways, here is the answer: I have an '06 and what you want is the "Zee Bracket". It mounts the license plate right in the grill, without having to drill holes in the OEM spots for the regular mounts.

People don't complain about the motor temp going up when using the Zee Bracket, but the hard core guys take it off when they go run their Z on the track.

Do a search for the Zee Bracket and you will find pictures on this forum. There is also a bracket made my Stillen, but I have no info for you about this bracket.

Best of luck,

+1 for Z bracket.. both 05 and 06 has similar front grill detachment piece where u connect the tow hook.. i dont have problems wit the temp running hot at all but was stopped due to a lack of front license plate.. the z bracket gives the front a nice look n is easy to install

Actually I did search and read about the brackets but the '06's grill looks different than the previous years and I was wondering if they re-did the way the plate mounts.

Thanks man.

Here is the the bracket you want. As far as we have heard the threads are the same on the '06 Car and they're for the past years.

Stillen still make one. You might find it cheaper. Dunno....

There may be a minor problem with the Zee-Bracket, and that is the back plate “A.” It goes behind the grill for reinforcement. I could not fit the plate on a 2004, so I left it off.

Z Braket fits on the 06 bumper... no need to drill holes... it clamps on to the factory grille...

I'm actually thinking that this isn't a bad way to go. You just have to carry something to cut the tie really quick so you can get to the tow hook location as needed.

The Zee bracket might be a pain to take off on the side of the road in an emergency.

I do like the simplicity of the one that goes into the tow hook hole. because it is just a single bolt into that tow hook hole. You just loosen that you have easy access to the tow hook hole.

For $39 the Zee bracket is a deal. However, using two black zip ties with the original bracket might be the best way to go as long as you can get it flush enough.

Agree. The Zee-Bracket is a pain in the butt at the track. I take it off the day before racing, and install the tow hook.
