Is shipping REALLY that expensive
I have gone to about 3-4 different sites, looking at the front nismo lip for our car, each wants to charge well over 100.00 to ship it......I'm like ummmm no!!!! Ive shipped FULL bumpers for 35.00 via ground service? Whats the frickin deal here?

yeah. thats what i did. i went to the dealer and told him that i can get the lip for around $345.00 and he matched it. i took him 1 day to get it in and he didn't charge me for shipping. i can see why the shipping would be so much because the box is huge. try this, it worked for me.

both sellers (pay less fees) and buyers (purchase inexpensive items even with expensive shipping) are happy at the end and ebay is the only loser....

there is no way you shipped a bumper for a Z for $35 in the US. Shipping on a front lip should not be $100.00 unless there are drop ship fees being charged by the vendor - $50-$75 is about right though

You wanna try shippping stuff half way round the world, and only then can you start complaining about the costs! hahahahaha
we can at least double the costs of anything we want to buy, just cos of shipping.

Even if you work for a shipping company, you have no idea the rates that exist between a particular business and a particular shipping company. The rates we pay are based of the type of packages we send. For example, if we were to make everything we send an air shipment, we would get killer air freight rates. However, the final cost would still be higher than ground. The air rates are where the carriers have the most flexibility. However, ground is the standard for shipping parts, and ground, especially ground to residential areas, is where the shipping companies have little to no negotiating room with a business. We have no way to integrate UPS into our site directly, as it would literally take forever and cost an insane about to do so. As such, we take an averaging approach to shipping costs, and it works out very very well. Some items cost slightly more to ship than our site charges, some cost less, and some items have no charge shipping - overall it averages itself out, and has worked out great for our customers.
One thing we do not do is charge any handling or extra insurance costs. The costs on our website are carefully derived based on actual costs, once all factors are in play (ie packaging costs (not all parts come in boxes, labor costs (someone has to pack the box), packaging materials (you need something in the box to protect the item), insurance (in the event it's damaged), signature (all freight companies charge extra for obtaining a signature). On big items such as a front lip or a bumper, the shipping company could care less if it's going down the block or across country - it is oversized so it goes by dimensional weight, not actual weight.
We've been shipping parts now for 10 years, and I have used every single major shipping company in the world for both domestic and overseas freight. Domestic, I have found it literally makes zero difference who you use. Fedex, DHl, UPS all have their plusses and minusses, and they are all extremely close when it comes to cost. Where they vary is when a problem arises. DHL is the easiest to deal with for claims but slower than molasses. UPS is a bit harder to deal with as you do not get a single claim "rep", but they resolve claims rather quickly. Fedex is far and away the worst firm to deal with for ground claims. The reason here is because Fedex ground drivers own their routes, not Fedex. As such, the responsibility falls with the driver to do as the package instructs (ie obtain a signature). In the event of a problem, they put you through the ringer with investigations, audits, etc. before they admit fault. I've literally had Fedex take 60 days to resolve a claim. When it's a small item, such as a turbo timer harness, no big deal...you send another out and deal with the freight company. When it's a big item that is lost or damaged, such as coilovers (yes Fedex lost a set of $2400 coilovers on us before), it becomes far more difficult to do with.

oh and FYI, if you cut down part of the nismo front lip box, you can get the shipping to 37.50 and some change.....there is a new nismo site that offers super cheap prices and same on shipping........but I can't say it in fear of calling it advertising for them

If you have a beef with the legitimacy of the shipping cost, call the vendor and offer to provide your own UPS/FedEx account number to bill the costs to. I've done this on larger items I've had shipped via air, as I have a pretty good discount w/FedEx... usually the better companies in it for the long-term customer will work with you, if you have a legitimate concern.
On the flip side, since they are accepting the liability of shipping the product to you, it's really not your place to tell 'em how to package it, unless you're willing to accept whatever damages might occur. Just my 0.02.

right, i concur, i was merely just posting to make sure that is what EVERYONE else was paying too and not that I'm getting ripped off...........if it was EBay I wouldn't second guess it and say.....yes.....they are ripping me off lol. No beef with any vendor on here though, I love you all!!!
