Default Burned Bumper from Test Pipes...

My car is at the bodyshop getting repaired and painted after an accident. So the manager calls me and tells me about the burned bumper which I noticed before but only thought it was just excess carbon build-up. Well apparently it's pretty much permanent unless they sand, paint and re-clear. I gave him the authorization to do it, but how can I prevent this in the future without getting rid of the test pipes?? Would fabricating some stainless heat shields do the trick??

Car is chrome silver so any discoloration sticks out like a ore thumb and I just can't have that!!

If you keep after it, it should have not time to settle in the paint. If you start to see some discoloration then get it cleaned off right away, you should be fine.

Sorry davidv, I didn't think much of taking pics before since I assumed it was'nt too serious of a problem..

Anyway, as soon as I gave the word they jumped all over the bumper in order to get the car finished. I doubt by the time I get off of work and up that way there'll be anything worth taking pics of..

I truly wish I had taken pics of this..

I can't explain why but before with cats there was obviously no problem. It was when I installed the test pipes things started to change color. Like the tail pipes which changed from polished stainless to almost a light bronze..

Mine didn't get that far but that's basically the same area.

Your exhaust tips don't look discolored.. Mine have completely changed color. I used Mother's polish and managaed to get a little of the stainless shine back but they're pretty much forever changed.. I'm not complaining, it's the bumper I am worried about.

Guess I'll just need to stay on top of it and get a clay bar..
