i am currently a member of Cougar Club and LOTS of us have neon underbody kits. We also walk around and laugh at the Civics and Teg's and whatever else has parkbench spoilers and stickers all over. I guess it is just a matter of what kind of car.

Funny thing is, i didnt plan to get neon for my Z when i get it...though i have yellow neon on my yellow cougar (along with washer lights). I think a $20,000 Cougar can have it and look good, but a $30,000 Z just has a different appeal to it. Cougars are driven strictly for 'show' and definitely not for 'go'. A Z to me says "GO" and neons are not really part of that image. I dont think i would call it rice, but probably wont get it on my car.

Bottom line: build your car for you, not anyone else! if you like it, do it and screw everyone elses opinion.

Let me just get out my flamethrower here....

Rice-a-Roni

The only thing worse is neon on a sportbike.

Not nearly as gay as someone who would put underbody neons on a 350z.

Undercar neons look ricey on any car IMHO. I don't like adding anything onto my car that doesn't enhance performance. Those erector set wings, neon lights, clear tailights, etc...they all look like rice to me, and do jack **** for the performance. Nice lightweight rims, lowering, and a lightweight and high flow exhaust is all I need to look good PLUS they serve a real purpose. Too much flash looks cheap, not classy IMHO.

Default Fear not, no neon will be added

Fear not, I would never add neon to a Z.

I was mostly curious what other people thought.

Now where can I get a good deal on lighted windshield washers, vinyl flame decals, fuzzy dice, and a horn that plays "cucaracha"?

Sweeeet! Almost forgot those.

Another important item I forgot was a big chrome TURBO sticker and a couple of coffee can sized exhaust tips. I hear those tips are worth 30-40 rwhp! No dyno runs on the turbo sticker yet.

Ok, rice is most commonly defined as some thing to make a car look fast (ie stickers, bodykits, bench wings etc). In my world there are three kinds of people. People who drive fast cars, people who wish they drove fast cars (aka rice). People who want their cars to look good. Neon really doesn't make a car look "fast". So neon isn't rice. Its more personal opinion. Also neon seems to be on more rice cars than regular cars. Just my 2 cents.

the cars on www.beaterz.com are what i define as "rice" but i don't think "rice" applies to all cars that utilize bodykits or wings or undercarriage neon. Take a look at any of the SEMA coverage and you can see that undercarriage neon can be done beautifully.

peace out,
Jack

There have been some very good comments on this thread. Like most, I hate to see a lot of exterior modifications that draw attention to someone who didn't think his Z was good enough. Most of the time they just cheapen it.

Now, I do think it is totally cool to drive up in a completely gorgeous stock looking car and have the ability to show some toys or turn on a show. You just don't want to parade it all over town.

Show it up front and its cheap and ricey.

Save it for those special occasions and you've proven you have class.
