Question cloth to leather seats?

so i have been trying to do some research. I am looking to put leather seats in to my '05 enth Z. the seats that i have now have no power, but i have heard that most cars put the plug for the electrical connection in all of there cars. Anyone validate this? also, how hard do you guys think it would be to put the stock leather seats from another Z into mine. Also, are the seats for all modles the same (excludinf pwr option, airbags, and material).

seats are the same for all hatchbacks, not for the roadsters.

Go to a 350Z-meet and look at some of the options.
a. You can buy and install OEM leather seats.
b. Leather seat covers. I have seen seat covers that look terrible, while others look exceptional. Depends on the quality of materials and installation.

yeah, noticed that too, probably it's cheaper for Nissan to make one-design for all models, regardless if they have the feature or not...

I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't put OEM Power leather seats in a Base Z or any other Z that didn't come with power stock.

I'm sure you can put them in. Whether the power seats would work, that's a different story...

I'm resurrecting this as I'm about to buy some OEM leather seats. I have an 03 base w/airbags and I'm buying OEM black touring power leather seats w/airbags. so I've read all the backdated info about this, however I'm wondering if anyone have any more current info. I'm sure more than a few guys have done this kind of swap so I want to get input from them.

I realize that the harness for the power of the leather seats will not be in my car so I will have to route power from another source. has anyone had problems with using the cig lighter power? I'd rather not mess with the power window wiring as they have that auto up function. is it just better to route power directly from the battery with an inline fuse? if so what gauge wire is best? should I just ground to the body? will the frame for the new seat bolt right in where my cloth seats were? lastly, given I disconnect the battery prior to the install, will I have any problems with the airbags?

Thanks!

I don't think you will have a problem getting power from the cig lighter. You may just have to put a bigger fuse. I may consider doing what you doing in the future. Good luck!!!!! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your seats? ...

Good luck!

well its still pending but if it goes through I will pay $500 which is ridiculously cheap. a local tuner stripped their new project Z and so these are basically brand new. otherwise I will/would have gone with leather covers, but hey I won't argue with OEM for the same price

as far as the cig lighter power, my only concern is whether there is enough current to power both power seat motors. does anyone know the voltage drawn by the power seats vs. the power output of cig lighter? thanks.
