Question Rolled Fenders

What is it, and does anyone have any pics? How much does it cost, and how long does it take?? Anything bad that comes with this?

Hair dryer to heat up the paint
Soft rag to cover the fender edge
Wood baseball bat
Roll it yourself

Sheet metal workers have a tool that is like a womens flat iron for hair, and I have seen this tool used before. You must still heat up the paint cause the tool does not heat up, it just clamps the metal and you must bend it up.

You know it's odd to me, the front wheel wells come rolled, but not the backs. Well the fronts aren't fully rolled but they at least have been angled upwards.

To the poster, the rear fenders have a lip inside that limits how fat a tire you can use (rubbing). A lot of people will have the fenders rolled in order to fit 285 size or larger tires in the rear. Basically, the lip is bent up inside.
As was said, the paint has to be heated to avoid cracking. I suppose there could be a greater risk of rust forming but thtas about it. Most shops that do it have a rolling machine that attaches to the hub. Here is a link to LEEMIK's car getting the fenders rolled.

What I don't understand is WHY you would want to do this to your Z??? Just to fit bigger tires?? Just doesn't make sense. Just my

to keep the tires from rubbing the fenders with the aftermarket wheels and fatter tires. Its a fairly harmless mod, takes about 5 minutes and it done.

Really, I want some 19" wheels, but I want the car to sit over the tire very nicely. I want the car to be low, but not rub. I just didn't know if rolling th fenders would work. I just love the way a car looks low to the ground. I want the look of the stock ride height minus 2 inches with 19 " wheels. Without rub

has anybody ever rolled their fenders themselves? I've seen the baseball bat method but just wondering if anybody did it successfully on their Z or G.

thanks

tienlo did you do it on your Z?

You definitely need to do some more research. If you drop this car 2 inches, you'll have to install a camber kit. Also with a 2" drop, I think any 19" wheel with an offset that puts the tire out as far as the fender is going to rub, rolled or not. I have a 1" drop with 19" +20 offsets and 275's in the rear and it's damn close for me. You took another inch off the springs, and it would be game over.

The most drop you can really do safely on this car without having to get a camber kit is about 1 to 1.5 inches. After that, you'll change the suspension geometry enough that you'll run out of camber adjustment.

If you stick with a one inch drop, you won't need a camber kit, and you probably won't need to roll the fenders. I personally wouldn't do this unless I had to to get the setup that I wanted, like Alberto who is running much wider tires in the back.

How far is your car off the ground...? I just don't want my car looking like I lifted it with the 19" rims. I see cars all the time get 1 inch bigger rims than factory height and they lower it like an inch and they still don't sit low. I just want a car that looks nice a snug to the ground, but still is driveable

If that's the look you want lowering the car get coilovers and use toe bolts in the rear and aftermarket A-arms in front (to maintain stock alignment specs). This will give you the effect you are looking for. Tha advantage to doiing this IMO is that if you want to return to stock you only need to remove the upgrades and reinstall you stock pieces ( you DO keep you OEM stuff...right??). That was my perspective in my earlier reply. Again just my

My ground clearance numbers are skewed because of my body kit. If you drop 1" and have 19" rims, the car will LOOK slammed...Here's a picture. This is with 19" +15F +20R sitting on 245/275's.....

Notice how little fender/tire clearance there is. Even with no body kit, the car will look low with a 1" drop and a nice set of 19s.

depends on the wheel offsets. My car is slammed and I do not come close to rubbing with 19"s/275's. 285's would definitely rub and require rolling.
