Default Body kit install estimate, too high?

I dropped my car off over the weekend for a local body shop for them to check the fitment of some parts, and for them to put it on.

Their work would be:
Install/paint front bumper and sideskirts and rear spoiler.
Also to remove the rear wiper.
They said the bumper fitment wasn't good, and they would pretty much have to paint all the sides of the car to "blend" the newly painted parts to the rest of the car.
The price they gave me is $4500?

Is it me, or is that really high?

$4500 you can almost paint a whole car. $6-7k you can probably paint the whole thing including pulling the engine etc.

Well...I talked to them this afternoon. Basically they said it was because the front bumper fitment was terrible. they wanted $3500+ just to get the front bumper to fit on the car, and in good quality. So for the rest, it's under $1k. But I am not paying them $3500 to get that bumper to fit.

Why would they have to repaint the rest of your car to match the body kit? They should be expert enough to mix the right shade of paint to closly match the paint fade that your car has.

That's what I was thinking. they're response was that the shade on the fiberglass/plastic comes out different than the metal, even with the same paint. This is the case of my car now, as my stock bumpers, and other painted plastic pieces are a slight shade off. you can tell this very easily on overcast days. I would imagine that it would be easier to blend the new parts to match the rest of the car. The reason I would let them paint the car anyway, is I have lots of paint chips on the car, and a door ding on the passenger side, and this would take care of that. So it was something I was asking for anyway.

I got quoted $3600 to paint and install an aerosync front bumper, zerosun sides, zerosun full rear bumper, data systems wing, repaint hatch and remove rear emblem, repaint hood, repaint front fenders, take out a ding on the drivers door and to repair two other dings on the rear fenders. So I am basically in the same boat as you.

I paid $2200 to have my Stillen Bumper, Sideskirts, Rear Bumper and spoiler painted and installed on my car (which including all the sanding they had to do to get the parts to fit).

$4500 is a rip-off.... If they know what there doing they can get the bodykit to match your car without having to repaint your car.

But if you want your car repainted then thats not to bad of a price.

3500 to put on a bumper...?

you could buy another original bumper and still have money for the install and other mods...

but it's your money... some people want to find the most expensive way to do things... other like me go the other way...

do what makes you happy...

Are you kidding me? You would be MUCH better off buying a new bumper with a perfect fit.

By the way, they are already working on the car and you're asking us if we think the price is right? Exactly what good will our opinions do at this point?

I already ordered a urethene bumper with a good fit. They are not installing/making the other one fit. When I asked, they didn't start any work on the car, I only agreed for them to give me a more detailed estimate. I'll let you know what the final result is...
