Default Moronic Tint Questions

Greetings,

I'm just seeking to ask a completely n00b-ish question about window tint. I'm a Maxima owner, but you 350Z (wish I was one of you) guys/gals seem more knowledgeable overall in terms of general automotive know-how.

I've been researching tint for my 1995 GLE, and I've decided to go with LLumar metallized, gun-metal (or black chrome, wtfever the real name of it is) tint. I've read up on the tint laws for my state (Wisconsin), and have the numbers... I just don't know what the hell those numbers mean. The numbers are: 50% visible light transmission in the front sides, and 35% on the back sides and the back window.

Now for the stupid question: Is 50% darker than 35% in terms of tint? My brain doesn't seem to want to decipher that, but it sounds to me like 35% tint would be darker than 50%. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for your answer to this completely retarded question.

Default Correct

You are correct. The percentage is the amount of outside light the tint allows to pass through. 50% would allow half the outside light in your car and 35% allows 35% through. 35% is the darker of the two.
