Aluminum? Anyone know?

Definately plastic.

 

The exterior handles are not plastic, because I sometimes get zapped with static when I touch it.

 

ok, but they are... the coating on them may be some sort of metal dip, Im not certain, but they bend and they dont hold the shape, so they are plastic.

oh and my dreams of powder coating also evaporated when I learned this.

 

They may be plastic, but i'd imagine that you could take off the handle and have someone turn it into a CAD drawing and have a cnc shop cut you a real metal one, which you could then have your way with. Thing is, your car will be handle-less for a little bit and i'm not sure how intricate the handle mechanism is.

 

I thought about that too. it seems theyd have to cut it out of a solid block of aluminum... so youd need a shop that can just drill out the shape. Im looking into a shop that can make the gas door, maybe they can do the handle as well.
