Lightbulb Idea for front license plate location

I am in the same boat as most of you who live in a state requiring a front license plate.

I didn't want to drill holes so I looked at my alternatives.
Weilding a hand full of zip ties, license plate and factory mount I managed to get the plate munted to the lower grill by only using two zip ties to secure the plastic plate mount to the plastic grill.

Then I simply screwed the plate onto the mount as usual.

It looks great and didn't cost me a damn thing.

Pictures will come this evening, but I assure you all it worked like a champ.
Neither the plate or the frame touch any paint... and it is definately on there very secure.

Cheers,

Here's a picture of my plate on the car where I mounted it with zip ties.

I am SOOOOOOOO glad I didn't drill holes in the bumper cap.

Tools req'd:

4 Ea 6" Zip Ties
Cutting dikes
...um, yeah... that's about it.
Anyway, I am pleased! What do you think?

Obviously, the down side to this method is that if the car needs to be towed, it would have to have the mount "snipped" off, but I corrected that dilema by throwing 4 more zip ties in the glove box!

Hard to say from just those two pics...but in my opinion you didn't make it any less conspicuous. It seems to draw attention because of how far away from the grill it is and the upward angle it seems to be at? Anyway, I commend you for your efforts and suggest that success on matters like these are determined in your eyes only, not the opinions of others!

Well, I agree, it isn't perfect. But I think it is better than drilling holes through the bumper cap.

I may be moving soon, and there's a chance the the state I'll be moving to doesn't require a front plate, so in a way I'm just buying time.

I really wanted to buy a plate adapter a fellow is making for mounting in this location, but he hasn't finished production yet.

Take care,

It's suppossed to be available to order in one week. I'm undecided on that option also because I wanted to mount mine a little more "tucked" but this doesn't leave much room to work with if you don't want to rub paint etc...

Very nice Demoman - I did something similar. I left off the mounting bracket and I bought 2 pieces of thin, dense foam from a craft store and I stuck them on the back of the tag, then twistie-tied the tag to the grill in the same position. The foam keeps the tag from rattling and scratching the grill.

Here's a shot outside. I was aiming right into the sun so it's not a good picture. I am trying...

None of the pictures I've taken of the car are any good, so far.

It does point "up" a tad, but I like the way it sits.
For any of you thinking about doing this, I'd suggest just trying it and see what you think.

I can't imagine ever buying a car that I'd be willing to put a front plate on.

They are required in my state, but despite the 4 times I've been pulled over for no plate, I've never recieved more than a verbal warning.
