Default JDM Smoked Reflectors: NISSAN vs. EBAY question

Saw them @ Courtesy Nissan for $25... then checked on Ebay for the hell of it...about the same price.... what do you guys think, are the ebay ones comparable or better? Finally, why are these almost 1/2 the price of the clear reflectors?

Here are the links:

Looks like the courtesy ones are amber with some tinted overlay... The ebay ones are actually black reflective material but probably won't fit as good... dunno. I'm happy with my ebay clears.

They're cheaper from performance nissan, i think i paid 19.95. I'm not sure why they are cheaper than white ones. I guess that white ones are more popular. I think smoked looks better since it makes the reflector look like it's a vent in the bumper.

Yeah, there is some VERY slight gap, almost nonexistant. So slight, that you'd have to be on your hands and knees inspecting them to see it. Take a look at my gallery and see if you can tell...

I can't remember who I got them from on ebay. I ordered them in late 2004.

Yeah, I dont like how they look amber on the edges.. perhaps you are right and there is an overlay on those.

The difference in any of the Ebay reflectors and the OEM dealership reflectors is how they are made. All of the ebay reflectors have a clear lense, with a defracted, reflective backing. The oem reflectors have a defracted lense, then a solid color backing. The ebay reflectors will cause serious issues if you are trying to put leds in them. They will look like crap. Trust me, I figured this out the hard way.

yup acree is correct.

btw, the nissan reflectors are not a film, they are smoked amber plastic on the lens. the nissan reflectors get their color and reflection from the actual lens itself, where the ebay are all clear smooth lens, and the color is from the backing.

with LEDs in the ebay, you can see them right there point blank, the outer lens is clear. no diffusion.

as for the price difference between nissan reflectors, in all the other countries around the world, the OEM is the smoked reflectors, so those arent an optional part. as such, the price is lower, more inline with the stock amber prices.

Thanks guys for the help, so which ones would you recommend based on this info? Since I have no plans inputting LED's on them, sounds like the ebay ones are better for my purposes. I just want the darkest reflector, and no hint of amber. thanks

If you don't want a hint of amber, then go with the ebay reflectors. But I would honestly suggest buying the OEM clear reflectors, and then paying a body shop $30-40 to mix up a 20% black / 80% clear mixture and then layering it until you get the desired darkness. Then have them through a couple of clear coats on and call it a day. But yes, for cost effectiveness, go for the ebay reflectors.
