Ok so my carbon fiber hatch arrived today and I took it out to take a look at it to make sure it was ok. Looking at the hatch doesn't seem like it would be hard to install it; then have my glass installed afterwards would seem like a task I wouldn't be able to do myself of course. So I went to this local body shop today that normally does the custom work for imports and they quoted me $300 to do install thats if their is nothing custom that needs to be done. Question is to the people that have this mod, who did the install you or a bodyshop? If you did it how did it work out time wise and being difficult or if a body shop did it how much were you charged how long did they take? He advised me that he would need my car for a day it is a 6 hr task to do this is that about right? Any help is great help, thanks

Rip off, do it yourself, with a friend of coarse, and pay some one to put the glass in if you want.

I don't know just worried I might screw it up by trying to do this. The only two things that really worry me is that the way the glass sits in if you remove the plastic off the hatch their is a piece that has a hole in it where the glass sits on top of plastic their is no hole so would have to drill it, also on the back their are two bump stops next to the airshock that would need a hole drilled. Chebosto, are you going to put all the plastic pieces back in or are you going to leave it all off due to no holes to put it in unless you drill them?

ha ha easy for you to say...off topic but those new side skirts you bought the Ings FBR how is the fitment inside of the door do you have to drill to make them fit? Ok back on topic might try to install with a friend Wed. morning then get the glass put in. Should I put all the plastic pieces back in or leave them off the hatch?

I can kinda infer from ur post that uve never had any experience installing side skirts huh? or maybe i read it wrong. The drilling isnt done to make the sides fit, the drilling on the inside is simply to hold the skirts on because they do not utilize all the stock mounting pieces (which are pop rivets). i think almost all the aftermarket side skirts require u to drill through the skirt and into the frame of the car in order to hold them on. On that not, they need to be sanding in about 5 or so corners in order to be a good fit, but overall i say good sides. Any mroe questions dont be afraid to ask.

300 is not a bad quote.. its what i would expect... personally i would not do it for someone for any less as you gotta keep in mind that you are going to have to give a good shop enough money for them to even give a **** to do it. for the time and hassle and potential liability, 300 isnt bad. accidents happens and its not rare to break the glass trying to get it out... if they did that then all of a sudden the job is going to cost them money.

if your decent with tools and such mechanical things, i would just install it yourself and then call an auto glass place and they will come out and swap the glass for you for around 100-150 bucks. worry about the plastic panels later, you can always do that as another weekend project, IMHO.

People who have this mod have said that using the stock glass is tricky and not recommended.

i know of two people personally using stock glass and its held up fine-

i really dont see a reason for concern unless the hatch you got is crazy warped .. i mean. its just glue that holds everything together.. even to the stock metal hatch-

I don't know anyone personally who has issues, but when I was looking into doing it myself, a few people on this forum who have done it seemed to recommend against trying to use the stock glass. I believe that Rickdogg was one of them.

A glass guy should be about to swap the glass for under $100, the worst part is all the trimming for the latch assembly....

Looking at the latch on the car shows to screws that are phillip head is this mot correct they are glued on? Does it matter which air shock to use? Doesnt seem that difficult really their are 4 bolts that hold the top part then the shocks; will have to trim a few holes to put some factory bump stops on and that seems about all Looking at the glass their are two plastic pieces that pop into a hole looks like this is all holding in our glass that and some sealant. Got a quote today from a glass shop to do it for $100 sounded good to me so I will try to take the hatch off tonight and finish up tomorrow here goes nothing...

Question if I were to purchase after market air shocks for the CF hatch which ones would i get? Am I looking for anything specific for weight, size, or what??? Having only one factory shock will not allow to sit level so had to use both, and help is great.
