I decided LONG ago that I would NOT allow holes drilled in my beautiful new 350Z. Unfortunately the law here in New York (and most other states) require a front license plate. So after weeks of planning, I believe I have found the perfect solution that I would like to share with all you fellow z-nuts.

I got a "universal license plate bracket" from Advance Auto Parts for the whopping sum of $2.99. I'm sure your local auto parts store has one. It is nothing more than a 8 inch long by 3 inch wide nylon plastic bracket with holes and slots all over it for a universal fit. It fits perfectly to the sides of the tow-hook area in the 350 grill. I took two 3" x 1/4" toggle bolts and mounted it with the toggles through the grill just to the side and below the tow-hook area. I then put foam self-adhesive weather stripping around the back edge of the plate to prevent scratching the grill. I attatched the plate with a black frame to the new bracket and voila! Looks like a factory fit! Because the plate is attatched to the bracket and not the grill directly, the plate does not contact the painted area around the grill at all so scratching will not occur.

Removal is easy with a screwdriver, just remove the plate, loosen the toggles and off comes the bracket.

cool man. i think here in texas you have to have a front license plate as well but i know 3 or 4 friends that do not have them and havent not gotten stopped about it.

I'd definitely like to see some detailed pics! Are the toggle bolts plastic or metal? All metal should be stainless, of course, and I hope the toggle bolts don't scratch the grill.

I didn't want to drill onto the 'Front"--so I used mounting tape for the top & front(little 1/2 inch squares on the hing points on teh inside of the bracket) and drilled 2 tiny holes using the bottom flaps of the bracket into the bumper...If I take it off,..you will never tell that there was a Plate there!! I have made little ity bity tabs to plug the oh so tiny holes so I'm all good!!! Holds nice too


I like the plate where its supposed to go,..wasn't relly a fan of the one blocking the whole mouth of the grill!bUt its all up to you

By the way.....I used stainless steel toggles. There are nylon bolts available, but I didn't think they would hold as securely. The toggle itself holds onto the inside BACK of the grill. No slippage, no scratches. Nice!
