Default Painting the ENTIRE 06 headlight housing

I was really impressed by these pictures, and am now considering replacing my 03 headlights (previously damaged) with 06, and painting the ENTIRE housing. Now, is this a good idea? I heard that it wouldn't work with 03's, because they're basically reflector type headlights, but apparently 06's aren't? Is it ok to go through with this? And should i just tell the bodyshop to paint them red / glossy like the rest of the car? Someone mentioned that glossy paint might reflect back, but i think that matte red paint would look really cheap. Suggestions? Pics of the setup i saw are below:

If your going to paint them, black them out. Any other color but DB,PPW,CS,SS is going to reflect pretty harshly. That Z is disgusting (in a good way) by the way, where is the original thread link?

the 03-05 have reflectors, and the 06 doesn't like you stated. It seems it would only be able to be done properly on the 06 lights because of how they are made.

Nice pics! I'm the one who actually shot those for Nitrouz when he first installed them.

Here is the original thread:

To answer your question, yes you can only do this with the 06 headlights because it is in fact a true projector type. Color matching it may not be a bad idea since I am also considering doing the same with my SS with the 06 headlights . I figured it'll look somewhat similar to how the new vettes have theirs. Color matching it is not a new thing though since I've seen a few members do this already. Here are some examples of the color matched headlights but on an 03-05 version headlight. The 06 basically allows you to paint it entirely since it would be a true projector & would not need the chrome backing. It's really personal preference though. The safe route most people take is simply going black. If you do, I'd recommend gloss black for a Black car & satin black for any other since it is a happy medium between gloss/flat balck.

Nitrouz, beautiful car man. On the headlights, how were you able to get rid of the plastic dimples on the inside of the headlight housing? Did you use the housing from you old headlights?

no...if you look at your housings more closely..you'll see that it's another cover inside the housing.

The black 06 headlamps look amazing Nitrouz! After I get my engine done, I plan on getting a set of 06's and doing something similar. Congrats on the whole car...one of my fav black Z's on the boards. Hopefully one day, mine will look just as good

There's a guy in the inventor classifieds of this forum that does for all cars, might want to find the thread. Like $175.

paint was done in a bodyshop. I do not know the exact details. feel free to PM the kind gentleman who did the whole amazing work for me at:

dan@mrzipps.com

Tell him Alex (nitrouz) sent you. He was nothing but excellent to work with. Communication and turnaround time was awesome as well.

All I know is that the interior paint is matched with my superblack. And trust me...pictures don't do them justice at all. Not even close.

You have to take out the harness and the bulbs... Long as you take your time its pretty easy.... You can d/led the 350z service manual from http://www.*********.com/zwiki/Service_Guide. It will tell you step by step how to do it.

Hmm for some reason the site wont let me say 350z - tech.com (remove the spaces around the -)

Yeah I know how do remove all the blubs and such but I was not clear when I said take them apart. By that I meant actaully peel the lense from the housing (i.e. the oven part of it).

Thanks,
