Got a quote.
After saying enough w/ the stupid rock chip sandblast job on the front bumper of the Z, I decided to get an estimate on paint. I figured that I'd get the license plate holes filled in as well. So, they (bodyshop) told me that to fill the 2 holes and respray the bumper and fade it into the fenders(so that it matches) it would be $650. It sounds high to me. Any of you had this done or know how much it should be?

I got the estimate in Elmsford. I live 30min. north of there.

I honestly don't like the aftermarket bumpers. I was thinking of maybe getting the Veilside V1 lip while doing this though...so I'm guessing add about another $300 in w/ it. It's starting to get expensive.
that does sound pretty high... i've had body panels painted before for much less back at a local body shop when i was living in Virginia... had a door painted on a VW Beetle for 300 bucks and was quoted for a shaved hood, including all of the welding, body work and paint for 500...
Well, I'm going to get a couple other quotes from some other local shops. If any of you guys who are local know of a shop that has better prices or just does good work please let me know.Thanks.
get an aerosync bumper. tell them dont worry about blending it into the fenders, just give them ur gas cap cover and tell them to "tint" the base coat to match. youll save some money doing it that way. should be around 300ish. so u get a new bumper and paint for the same

last week I had my front bumper re painted, the plate holes filled and got a ze-plate bracket and I shaved the nissan emblem off. when I went for the quote I asked the guy for two prices, how much to do the work and take the front bumper off and put it back on and how much to do the work if I took the bumper off myself. He said $450 for him to take the bumper off do the work, and put it back on. and $300 if I took the bumper off for him. Long story short I had him do the work AND take off the bumper for $300. try to get the body shop guy down and deal in cash for a better deal
Wow, $600 to repaint a bumper is insane. I had it done on my Galant a couple years back for $200 to $250 and it matched perfectly. too bad you arent here in So Cal. I could send you over to them.
how can you determine if it's insane, or too much, without knowing what materials they are using? Sure, you can get away with a $300 spray, using a single stage, cheap PPG paint and call it a day. And a year later, when it's fading, or flaking, or worse, you'll wonder why you didn't spend the small extra money.
$600 to fill the plate holes, paint the bumper and blend into the fenders is not overly expensive at all, provided its a good body shop using top shelf products that gaurantees their work. Especially if you have a Chrome silver, or worse, Silverstone, which I can tell you from personal experience, is the hardest color to match that I've ever come across, no matter the car (I've had my own stuff painted enough times to know first hand!)
Remember, body work is regional...like construction costs for example. It is a lot different to get something painted in Boise as it is to get it done in the New York metro region.
So, how do you determine if the price is too high? Go to some other area body shops, inspect their work and the level of cars they do, and then make a decision. Remember, a low price does NOT mean the best deal.
And lastly, everyone has a different take on what "matches perfectly". It is a very relative term.
You're on the right track - go to some other area shops, and take it from there
