The odd thing is, my 03 Pathfinder has auto lights (the wiper switch also goes the opposite direction, and the twist for delay and rear wipers are reversed, I have no idea what they are thinking, but that is another story).

Read your owners manual and you will find out that they DO turn themselves off automatically.

But turning off automatically after 5 minutes to save your battery and turning on when it gets dark and turning off when it gets light or after 30 seconds when you get out is not really the same thing.

The Z has a 3 position switch, Off, Park, Lights. If you were to leave them on all the time, they will come on as soon as you start the car and shut off five minutes after you turn it off. This, as well as the buzzer, is a battery saving feature for occasions when when you forget to turn them off, not an automatic lights feature. Five minutes of full lighting every time you turn off the car can be hard on the battery, especially if a lot of short trips are involved.

So ignoring the buzzer is not a good idea.

Translation:

The Z turns off the headlights after 5 minutes as a safety mechanism, so you don't come back out to a dead battery. This is different than so called "auto-lights," which come on automatically when it starts getting dark outside, and turn off during the daylight hours.

Auto-lights = cool. Safety shutoff after 5 minutes = lame

hehe 'Safety shutoff after 5 minutes' = better than jump starting your discharged battery cause you left your lights on

I would also add that this 5 minute delay pertains to all the lights inside and out; i.e. Your cabin lights will automatically turn off after 5 minutes if you accidently left them on .... AAA must really hate 350Zs ... you get a gas warning 3 gallons before empty and it almost impossible to drain your battery ... haha
