Gauge cluster? Yes. Give your dealer a call.

That's a shady sounding question if I've ever heard one! If you do, you'd be legally obligated to disclose that the odometer in the car does not reflect the true mileage of the car at time of sale. When people here that, it's gonna make it awful hard to sell. Beyond that, I wouldn't think it matters.

im pretty sure the miles are stored in the ECU, why would you want it to have 0 miles for the track, theres no reason at all

^ That's true. If what you wanted to do was to record your track miles, a log book would be easier than constantly switching your gauge cluster out. I suspect that's not what this is really about though.

Haha, no, you cannot. Dealers have to order new gauge clusters through a regulated organization (don't recall the name, but my Infiniti service advisor was telling me about this) that ensures and certifies that the odometer is set to what the cluster it is replacing was, so there can be no odometer fraud.

And you can just buy it that way and put it in your car with however many miles? That's crazy. What would stop someone from putting one in their daily driver at 50k miles, then selling their car 15k miles later as a rarely used weekend car with only 15K? I thought that's why whenever replacement gauge clusters were sold, the milage had to be set to whatever the current one had?

He didn't say that handed 'em out like lolipops at a carnival, he just said that that's how they come from Nismo.

Well, so do all clusters; Nismo or otherwise (They have to be sent out to get the milage programmed and certified before sale or installation) . I assumed he meant they sold the Nismo ones that way.

Gotcha. So the dealer can't do this, they have to send it out for programming? Wow. I mean, I'll bet it doesn't happen too often, but sheesh, what a process.

Hey Jason,

I have a quick question about the cluster. I messed mine up when I tried changing the led lights and face so I bought another one from ebay. Unfortunately, the one that I bought was from a performance model. By using performance cluster on my track I've lost some functionality like turning off traction control and setting cruise control. why is this?

No, they don't. I don't know where you are getting your info, but if you buy a nismo cluster you will be geting a cluster with 0 miles on it.

You can get a used cluster from a totaled Z. They are out there. Remember ever year you get your mileage recorded by inspection stations, registration and so on. So if one year you have 50k and the next 15k a red flag goes up.

On my friends last car (a leased Acura) he bought a used cluster off ebay. Switched it for daily use. And if he had to go to the shop or inspection he would put the original back in (no mileage discrepancy). He had like 10,000 extra miles after lease was up but they didnt know. After turning the car in he sold the cluster on ebay for the same price he paid. Smart kid.

And now you guys are gonna say hes dishonest. So be it. I am a bible thumper so dont flame me. But if anyone knows what a piece of **** those TLs and CLs were with a true tranny problem you might see why he did what he did.

Because the cluster houses the functions to arm and disarm these functions. You'll have control over TCS but not over VDC.

The NISMO cluster absolutely does not have to go in for any sort of mandated programming, so I am not sure where that rumour comes from. In fact, you could walk into your Nissan dealer tomorrow and order a cluster and not have to send it out if you didn't want to.

What stops people from selling a Z with 50k actual miles that displays substantially lower mileage on the cluster is your inspection, as well as your trips to the dealership for any warranty repair, or even certain oil change chain locations. These places all record your mileage, and report them to DMV at regular intervals.

The mileage is not stored in the ecu on the current generation Z's - it is stored in the cluster itself. The Z is not the only car like this - tons of the Japanese cars are

I was given this info by the service manager at my Infiniti dealership. I have no idea on the Nismo cluster; I was inquiring about a stock replecement cluster and this is what I was told.

I understand about service, inspection, etc. reporting milage, but it would be easy to cheat with a second cluster, especially for those that do all their own work on the car and don't require inspection.
