painting plenum
I'm currently painting some underhood stuff and figured since I have the strut bar off I could dress up the upper plenum. I'm a bodyman so I know how to paint with automotive paint, but what should I use for the plenum? Will I need a high temp paint? Any feedback on a certain brand/type of paint. I'm wanting to go flat or gloss black. Thanks.

I think you should just get the plenum powdercoated. You wont have to worry about heat issues with the paint. I've seen both powdercoated and painted plenums in person, and the powdercoated one looked just like the first day it was painted. On the other hand, the painted one was more dull and looked like it was rubbing off.

2% are the Artists and expensive and generally slow. But cool, there work is flawless
Powder coating is in a class of its own--Its generally a negative/positive process where the product sprayed is positivally charged and the item powdered is negativly charged. There is an attraction and the powder is sucked into every nook and cranny---The powder will actually turn a corner to get to an uncovered area. Then the part is put into a walk in oven that can be 450 -550 degrees and baked, the powder melts.
Ur question ----No , bodyshops dont as a rule want to take on a entirely differant process and powder coat shops specialize in Powder coating.

i used rustoleum hammered aluminium paint & it looks really good!
i just cleaned the plenum, taped off the surrounding areas & sprayed.
I likes ot so much I painted my greddy TT intake pipe the same way.
1 year later its still looks good
