Fiberimages uses twill weave:

hand laid 3k (?) weave, but squeegied resin, but non vacuum bagged (i've been telling them to go bagged but they don't listen)... however their stuff is relatively lighter than their competitors.. and you can jump on it! haha. they are aftermarket clear coated for shine & for uv protection.

Hey quick question for you CF guru's.

-Can you sand down and re-clear CF?
-can you get parts wraped in CF?
- And who to send parts to get wrapped?

I ask b/c I just bought Carbon Kevlar Kstyleking sides and there are a couple little cracks. And I want the kstyleking rears but i think htey wiil be hard and a pretty penny to get them in carbon kevlar. And I am also thinking of having my Cwest front lip done in kevlar ?!?!?!

Very awesome thread. If I could carbon my car I would.

Yes, they can be sanded and re-cleared. Yes, you can have parts wrapped, though I've mainly seen this on interior pieces; don't see any reason why exterior pieces couldn't be done. Not sure who to go to to do this. There's a thread around by a guy that covered most of his interior with CF and will do parts for others; try to hunt up the thread and PM him. I think Suite E Graphix (or something like that) covers parts in CF as well (again, only seen interior stuff).

I'm not sure what type of 350z hood this is but this appears to be some crazy twill weave action

If you decide to sand down a CF piece, make sure you're very careful! If you accidentally sand to far and hit the fiber itself, it'll almost always be ruined. You can sand the clearcoat, not the CF itself.

Here's a link to an page with a pretty in-depth "how-to" in making CF, along with using a vacuum to shape. This is for motorcycles, but the process is the same.

That method is very time consuming for production, I guess it's okay for one offs. Imagine every piece that needs to be blocked and sanded smooth, it could end up very expensive. The production method is to put the bag on the other side (backside) so you can have a clean surface, but you will need a female mold for that process.

O.K dumb ? time

So if you overlay the CF cloth let's say the center console like many have done, apply your resin's and so forth, would that be considered "WET LAYED"

Intresting Stuff,

I was under the impression from speaking to my own contacts, that due to thr resins used in Pre Preg parts they not actually UV Stable, in other words they will eventually discolour and turn brown from exposure to sunlight, even if it is protected by a clear coat.

This is where wet laying / vac bagging is better, as the resins used in here are UV Stable (Polyester I believe), and wont discolour from UV exposure
