Default bumper damage. fix or replace?

Just few days ago, my REAR bumper was hit by some car backing out of the parking lot.
it left a quite large (about 6-7 inch diameter) scrape mark under the right REAR blinker.

i went to 4 different bodyshops and they all said the bumper needs to be first repaired and then completely repainted.
the average estimate is around $650.

out of curiosity, i called a nissan dealer and asked for the cost of a new bumper.
they said it was $320 (unpainted).

now i'm not very knowledgable about auto body repair but wouldn't it be better to just get a new bumper instead of fixing it if it costs about the same (or less)?

i'm guessing that painting and installing the bumper shouldn't cost more than $300-350.

your opinion would be tremendously appreciated.

(btw, i'm going through the other guys insurance to resolve this.)

Man listen....Get a new bumper, and buy a lip kit. Have the shop mold it on and then paint it all...Specially if its the other guys insurance. That or buy an after market bumper and have them put and paint it. ---my advice....but the answer to your question...yes it makes more sense to have a new one put on and painted, rather then repair your old one

Depending on what year your Zed is, I'd insist on a new bumper. The cost of the paint and labour would bring up the cost on the new bumper. Paint is very expensive.

Getting something custom molded costs $$$$$$. It's not easy. But, back to the original post.... that is a really HIGH quote. But I guess it doesnt matter since the orther insurance company is paying for it. My bodyshop guy will charge me $300-350 to repair and repaint. I would consider a new aftermarket bumper and paint if the cost is the same. The other insurance doesnt have to now that, just have to agree on the price.

Im about to get my car painted from getting keyed, so its on insurance, but I want them to paint my new bumper and side skirts - will they do that with insurance or will they charge me extra?
