i will try that, thanks.

I also have hood struts up front, they dont hold in the cold either.

I had the same problem before, with Nismo V1 wing, I had mine rebuilt by Frank of Strutwise, now they stay up.
His webpage http://www.strutwise.com
Cost me < $100 and they have been good since.
I was unable to find aftermarket struts that fit, and didn't want to pay the high cost of the nissan HD ones.

I'm sorry but I couldn't help but laugh everytime I read the word "bonked" in this thread... LOL. but I'm sorry about those who have been hurt by this malfunction. I just experienced this myself this morning as it was the first time it's been cold here in Dallas. Luckily It fell slowly and I heard it coming and caught it.

I stopped counting how many times ive been hit. This year i have a new tactic though. I push it up let it drop like 4 inches and then push it up again with a decent amount of force, it then stays up. Its working well with that method in 40 degree weather in Michigan. When it gets to the teen's i'm not sure if it will still work. Try it folks

My stopped supporting after I put on my Stillen-type 1 style spoiler in cool weather. It doesn't have to be freezing, just 80 degrees or so. It does work okay in the summer where I live (110+ degrees) and works down to about 85 degrees. That's w/o the weight and plastic cover. I'm going to get the heavy duty ones Performance Nissan or the Z store sells.

I use my Cal Duster to hold up my hatch.

I have the same issue. But, if I the push the hatch up all the way up, then everything is fine. A stronger strut would do the trick, but until I take one in the melon... I'll leave it alone.

For what it is worth... These rear hatch shocks are covered by NISSAN Standard warranty of 3year 36,000 miles... They may be covered by various extended service plans depending on your terms...

If local or would like to bring your car into me and you are having this problem, I will be glad to take care of it for you!

I've been bonked!

It would stay up a while and then out of nowhere it would close. Now it doesn't stay at all so as a temporary remedy I hold it on my head. A pain, but much safer.

i had the same problem after getting the nismo spoiler, but nissan covered it under warranty and replaced the shocks. It's been around 4 months since the new shocks, and so far no problems.

I thinks it's crappy that you have to pay 229.00 to get some decent struts!

Real Noggin Flogger --Struts are pressurized,The lower the temp the less pressure, Higher the temp the more pressure.
Newer Nismos seem cool but the ones I saw had no brackets ???? Just the "female" ball for the existing bracket and for the life of me , I couldnt see as how the ball could be released to plug into the new strut.---Jason ???

When purchasing the "Set" it requires purchase of new brackets / bolts...

Mine are starting to get weak and wacked me in the head real good last night. Funny to find out there's already a long thread on this. No wing or fin BTW. And one shock was replaced under warrenty around 30,000 miles ago. I guess these are just a 30-60K mile maintanance thing and a nessessary upgrade if you take your weight up with a wing. That hatch can do some damage though.

Same here: My hatch drops in cold weather. This should be a safety recall since you can easily be injured. --Spike

To avoid a noggin floggin, Cut off mamas broom handle for a support. Hate to take away her means of transportation but the car and noggin come first

At least it hurts a little less knowing that I was not alone
For the last month I've been using the technique below. Someone has alredy suggested that and it works well for me.
After opening the trunk lid, push it till the uppermost position and when at it continnue to apply upwards force for 1-2 sec (i.e. still push it up). After that the trunk holds firm and it takes just 2 extra sec.
