Default Installing Splash Guards...Easy or Hard?

I'm thinking about buying the factory splash guards for my Z. My dealership wants to charge me $100.00 to put them on! I think that's a bit high, so I'm thinking of putting them on myself. If you have done this yourself please help me out. Was it easy? Did it involve fancy tools? Did the tires have to be removed? Did the car have to be put on a hoist? Is drilling necessary? On a scale of one to five (five being extremely difficult) where would you rate the ease of putting on the splash guards?

Wow! Seems like I'm asking a lot. Please help me out!

Thanks!

Michael

Default Splash Guards-Easy Install

I bought the rear guards from Courtesy Nissan and was pleased to find that they were very easy to install. The holes do need to be drilled, but it is very easy. The two holes in the fender-well actually have little pock-marks in the metal where the screws go. The wheels have to come off. 1'st one takes 10 minutes, the next ones you can do in 5 min. Do it yourself.

Cake! 15 minute install. It can be done without removing the rear wheels if you have a 90degree phillips head driver. I love that thing.

True Dat! If I can do it, anyone can. $100 is uncalled for!

Default VERY easy!

I installed all four splash guards a couple of days ago, and to think a dealer would charge $100 for this EASY installation is ridiculous!

It took me about 20 minutes to install the set, including reading the instructions. I found that the only holes I had to drill were for the rears. I didn't feel too bad doing this because you are drilling into urethane, not metal. Just BE CAREFUL not to over drill the hole, 5mm bit will do the trick. The spring clips work very well on securing the guard to the bumper.

The front guards are well-secured with the top screw/spring clip and the bottom bolt. I chose not to drill the center screw into the metal rocker and the guard is tight nevertheless.

One more thing.....a GOOD coat of wax under the guard is a good idea!

DO IT YOURSELF!

Default Thanks!!

Thank you,
AZ350Z, Zaphod 350z, fdao, and zcar70!

I appreciate the advise. I bought all four guards. After finally reading the instructions today, it seems a hole needs to be drilled for each rear guard. That's okay, but the instructions make it sound like the hole has to be drilled on the bottom of the car. How is this possible without hoisting the car off the ground? Also, great tip about NOT drilling the holes for the front guards. I'd like to get by with as little drilling as possible. And thanks for the tip about the 90º phillips screw driver...SMART! Can you think of any other "dos" and "don'ts" before I start?

Are you guys pleased with how the splash guards look on the car? Any of you have chrome silver?

Hey, thanks a bunch! I truly appreciate the help. Happy and safe motoring!

There is plenty of clearance to drill the bottom rear hole without raising the car. And the 90 degree screwdriver is a good idea too.

I have a LeMans Sunset Z and at first I wasn't thrilled with the look of the rear splashguards. I liked the front look. I decided that the protection offered by the guards outweighed the look so I installed all of them. After seeing the set on the car, I loved it!

To each his own!
