The 350z 'Notion' Project - Exterior Styling
Hello All,
Over the following months I will be working on the creation of my own vision of the 350z and keeping threads up to date in the different forums that relate to the work being done.
The designers at Nissan did such a wonderful job of the car's exterior styling that it inspired me greatly when considering what work to do when personalizing my '04 Touring Roadster.
Taking some styling tips from the great European car makers such as Aston Martin, Maserati and Alpha Romeo I wanted to bring that taste of refined muscle and elegant styling to my project.
I've attached my Photoshop mockup of where I'd like to end up, I'm pretty happy with the results and hope I can get the finished article as close to this styling as possible.

Modifications list for this styling...
Wheels - I'm looking for a convex lipless finish to the wheels with a simple spoke fan - in the mockup I used the design from the new 7-Series BMW's. Rims will probably be 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 although in the mock-up they probably look closer to 20's.
Suspension - I'd like to drop the rear about 0.5-0.75" and the front 1.0-1.5" to lower the nose of the car and give a more musclular looking stance.
Side Skirts - Veilside Version 1
Lights - Eyelids on the front lights. Remove the orange reflectors on the front bumper. Hopefully find some kind of frosted clear lighting with LEDs for the back lights.
Front Bumper - Nissan Billet grill. I took the styling for the lip from an Aston Martin Vanquish, I love the second air dam it gives a whole extra hint of power without being too 'shouty' although I'm not sure how I'm going to acheive this look yet.
Seating - Hoping to find someone willing to do a seat swap with me to trade my black for their burnt orange.
Fender Air Dams - My favorite part - again taken from the Aston Martin Vanquish, I'm hoping to find an excellent coachwork shop that I can commission to do this work.

Not bad.
Haven't seen any wheels like that on a Z; dunno if any are around that will fit. Just have to do alot of hunting.
Lighting:
They make clear bumoer reflectors. You can get them with LEDs built in as well. For the rear, about the closest you're looking for is the JDM clear "altezza" style '06 LED tails. They still have a red reflector in them, though.
Bumper and fender mods. These would abviously have to be done custom. It'll take extensive mods to the existing front bumper to achieve that look, but find the right shop and have enough money and you can do it. Fenders woud be easier, but again, a custom job.
Good luck and keep up posted!

Wow!
That is great looking in the artist's impression but in the photo's it start looking like an imposter.
I want to capture the 'flavor' of the European designs without trying to look like any specific vehicle.
Thanks for the link though.

Thanks for the pictures of those rims, definately close to what I was thinking of. The Superleggra wheels from OZ also have a similar look.

Here's the Suzuka Rear Bumper Cover. In this pic I used photoshop to simulate the black/carbon fiber area to take some of the visual weight out of the bumper where it runs between the back pipes...
ANybody know of a rear wing with a similar shape to the one in the picture, but smaller and for a Roadster???
