Default Hatch/bumper alignment issue

Just got my car back from the body shop, kit fits like I would expect, not perfect, but close enough that unless you are really looking close you wont notice any issues. The one exception is the rear. At first I assumed it was a problem with the rear bumper, shop said it would cost atleast $500 to fix and repaint, so I said I would think about it. Now that I look, it looks as if the bumper is fine but my HATCH is sticking out too far. Is this possible? What do you guys think?

I think you should forget about it.. I have a slight problem like that after just getting the OEM rear bumper re-painted.. Dont worry about it and use that money towards worthy mods!

Yeah, I know, but I am ocd about that kind of thing haha. Just hoping for some easy fix, shims or something, I dunno, a miracle of some sort. Not planning on paying that much for a fix, that is for sure...

...ish. down the road who knows...

replica, but it was previously o another Z and it didn't have this issue, or if so it was extremely minor and not pronounced enough to notice

Just went to the factory service manual- rear hatch is adjustable. if I can find a flashlight I'm going to go take a try at it now...

Did they replace the weather stripping? It sure looks kind of thick.

i dunno about the weather stripping but I doubt they did. the adjustment is minimal, helped a bit but not much, not the source of the problem.

just went through the parking lot and found a stock Z, definately is a hatch problem. Anyone have any ideas as to what the issue may be and how to fix it?

Oh, and if anyone would be so kind to take similar angle pics of their own Z's it would be nice to see a few examples of how it should look

lift the hatch, use a broom stick to hold it open and play with the hinge bolts at the top

I cannot believe a shop would let you pick the car up that way...thats ridiculous

could you post a pic of the gap where the hatch meets the roof line?

what would I do? if you think its the hatch, then the easy way to tell is compare the gaps between hatch and roof, and along the hatch line

the more I look at it, I'd say that bumper is the issue....it appears to not fit well, but again, really hard to say for sure

the gap up there was pretty big, about the width of my key. I just meant to ask how to to do the actual adjustment, like where are they, how many, how to adjust, etc

looks like the bumper. It doesn't look like it has the same curve to it that the hatch does. The corners look like they meet up closer but the hatch has more of a curve to it than the bumber so there in the middle of the bumper the seam doesn't look right.

Most of the time it is a bad replica that causes the bumper to not fit well with the hatch. You can mess with the hatch a bit, but I'd see what you can do to shim the bumper to get it to come out some and meet the hatch.

walked by another Z this morning and on it too, the hatch is flush with the rear lights, whereas mine is lifted above them. it looks to me that the hatch is the issue, if fixing the rear bumper is what it'll take, thats what i'll end up doing

I had hail damage last year. Gates Chevy did the repair, I had to send the car back three times. Hood alignment was HORRIFIC at first, the hatch was ****-eyed, they tore the weather stripping.

So three times latter, I said @#%k I need my car back. A year later and I'm consider going to a muscle car restoration shop to fine tweak the hood and hatch cause it's still off...

edit: they also lost half of the plastic caps the cover the bolts in the truck.
