Am I the only one????

These are pictures of the weather strips on my windshield, both sides, top and bottom (no pics of the top). Seem to be rottening/deteriorating/disintigrating or whatever for whatever reason....weather, chemical, cheap...don't know for sure. Not alot of water (maybe less than a table spoon) get's down in the car when I wash it or even IF/WHEN it rains (Yuma). But I can here the wind on coming through when I'm on the freeway mostly doing over 80+. Dust gets down inside of it though. If you pull away the rubber thingy (along the door) you can see alot of dirt inside that area.
I reported it to Nissan a while back, actually bout two months ago and got nothing done. They weren't sure if it would be covered under extended warrany. Then they told me ok they could classify it as "goodwill" (not sure if that's the word or what it means) but basically I wouldn't have to pay. Then I went on leave (Seattle) for 20 days during the holidays. Before that they were telling me that they order the parts but only one side came in and they were waiting on the other side. Then I heard that Nissan or where ever they get the parts from doesn't know what they were talking about.
I came back and called Nissan and they're telling me that the reason was that the part number for the strips weren't in "their" system. Now they are on order (from whereever they get their parts from) and should be in on Wednesday so I have to drop of the car Thursday morning.

My guess is that it dried out from the extreme heat. It's critical for cars in your area to protect rubber, plastic and foam parts with something like 303 Aerospace Protectant. Not only will it help protect from the sun's UV rays, it helps keep seals lubricated so they stay soft.

+1....I use that stuff on my car all the time and weather conditions and a garage in N. Carolina means that it would probably be fine anyways. But out in that extreme heat.....I would've thought about preventative maintenance.

ya i use ArmorAll on all rubber, plastic, and vinyl. definitly makes them shine and look better, on top of protecting them. Very convenient when you buy the roll of premoistened wipes they sell.
just be careful not to get it on the glass, its a ***** to get off.

Waited all day yesterday for the phone call from the service center but it turns out that the parts didn't come in. They finally came in today but there were the wrong pieces. It seems like there was a misunderstanding on what need to be ordered. Anyway, I got a call today saying that I need to bring the car tomorrow because they need the paint code.
They told me they can't replace just the damaged pieces and that I have to removed and replace the whole panel, which costs over $500.00
