Carbon Fiber engine cover
it was posted just before I think, if 300$ is fair to pay for a peice that is super light and super strong, when the peice has no funtion other than appearance, and weight savings would be in the area of ounces.
all so you can have a peice which can only be seen when the hood is open...
basicly, I think its a gigantic waste of money, and your better off getting faux carbon fiber for something like this, so you can get the look rather than paying so much for strength that you dont need.

Useless...
Worthless...
Idiotic...
I mean - I put billet aluminum antenna on because I never really liked the whip...
I put the silver molding on the grill... (still contemplating whether it should stay or not...) and I removed the huge *** emblem because they are ugly and huge. I did it because they just didn't look good to me. A plastic cover on the engine, however, made out of carbon fiber is more stupid then replacing the aluminum hood with a fiber hood... just doesn't make any sense!

Pretty funny how all these wannabe racers talk about how they are trying to be "INDIVIDUALS" by putting all this junk on their cars when in reality, it just makes them look all the same; LAME.

There are some people who buy this stuff for show because It looks nice. Not everything on the Z has fuction.
If your so fuction oriented take out all your plastic panels, carpet, engine plastics etc. Its really only for appearance and has no fuction. It will make you so much faster and make you the coolest Z owners on the planet. Fuction over fashion right?
I see alot of people that owe over Nismo parts that are only for appearance. For example the nismo wing, body kit, oil cap etc. I guess if things get the Nismo stamp on then thats where the rice comments stop.
Get off your high horses because I honestly bet you both will never ever take the Z to the next level in perfomance.
So why dont you take both your Z's to the track and show us your jaw dropping lap times. Maybe then some people might respect your comments.

The NISMO kit (don't own it or plan to at this point) is the only known wind tunnel tested kit out there. I have seen the wing on the Bathurst car and I think on Dwnshfts car as well. All other body kits that are not wind tunnel tested are strictly styling excercises. I am trying to keep the Z from being seen as a ricer mobile. You don't see guys in Ferrari's doing this crap to their cars so unless you want to seen as a glorified Civic why would anyone here want to do it?
I just don't get the fascination. Maybe I am just already getting too old at 31. People will put $1000's into their cars trying to look like a racecar, but they wont spend one red cent actually trying to learn how to drive that car. What is the point of trying to look like something you aren't?
Before anyone says it, I know this is America and you are free to screw up your cars however you want. That is why we are the greatest country in the world. People are free to act as ridiculously as they want as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. Many other people are getting rich catering to this bad taste as well. God bless capitalism, but a message board is a place to exchange opinions and ideas. Some people will post one view, some people will post others. That's just the way it is, as long as we try to keep it civil enough.
To me, driving is religion and the pseudo race wannabe's are the anti-christs. I will try to convert as many of them as possible to save their souls!!!
Or if you hate my post:

Well, if you had read any of the other threads on this board, you might have seen that I outran our current active racer/expert (15 years of SCCA racing experience including the runoffs) by 2.5 seconds per lap at a recent event. I have never been outrun by another 350Z at a track event yet. My Z only has 7K miles on it and 1K of those miles are racetrack miles!! I am only currently active in karting and even at that I am not very active while trying to take care of business interests.

And believe, all cars are strictly styling exercises. Aftermarket body kit or not.
Red6; not all my posts are negative in the apearance forums.
i like what i see on some members cars, but carbon fiber accessories that cost an arm and a leg that serve NO PURPOSE on a Z makes me want to tell them the truth; it is rice.
i praise the lord that ferrari has never, and will never produce a sports car in the lower 50k price range. or else it might get into the wrong peoples hands and end up looking like a civic.

by putting carbon fiber bits and peices here and there, you're asking people to race you, and those people will more than likely think that you have "other" things done to your car when they see the black woven stripes.
then to their astonishment, their brand new "lightly modified" whatever car, just whooped a 350z with a full body kit, neon lights, carbon fiber engine cover yada yada yada. you get the idea.

who cares if you like it, why pay 300$ for a solid carbon fiber peice whos strength and weight have no impact on anything. why not just overlay a layer of fiber onto plastic for like half the price? looks the same, and that is the only reason to have it. not that theres anything wrong with that, but the fascination with REAL carbon fiber for no structural purpose seems wasteful.

It will look thick and not straight bubbles from resin will show etc...
We have done alot R&D on the Carbon Fiber under hood pieces
A wrapped piece will Yellow and crack becasue of the heat
A little about are proccess

easy steps to make your own carbon fiber for 1/4 the price!
a: find reputable dealer of carbon fiber (i found one in hawaii that was selling me rolls of around 60"x20' for about 100 bucks!!) your going to need all the necessary epoxy's to go with the fiber.
b: buy these following parts; rolls and rolls of thick plastic dropcloth used by painters, a few tubes of silicone, some wood, screws, mold making agent, and some pam!
c: find part that you want to make out of carbon fiber, using the wood and screws build a "box" for the part to sit in.
d: pour mold making agent into the "box", spray pam onto the surfaces of the peice to be duplicated, now heres the wierd part;
e: you need to add a peice of plastic around the edges of the part so that it will split the single mold into two peices for easy acces. while youre at it put a plastic tube about the size of a drinking straw between what will be the two molds so you can use compressed air to blast the top mold off.
d: pour mold making agent into bottom half of box, place piece to be duplicated on top (remember that both sides have to be sprayed with a nonstick agent) pour on the second half of the mold on top of the piece.
e: let dry for a day, use an air compressor hose to pop open the mold from the little hole that you put between the layers.
f: boom, mold ready to be used; lay carbon fiber sheets inside (if you are making something like a hood that needs extra support, you can add a honeycomb foam center that will add to its structural integrity when the "gels" harden)
g: spray pam on the molds for this part, pour a consistent amount of the epoxy onto the molds, lay down a layer of matting and add layers if you desire. (your going to have to play with the carbon fiber to get it to look the way you want it to in this part, i reccomend using fiber glass for practice, then move to the real thing once you have it down pat)
h: using the thick plastic sheets build a "bag" that can hold the molds in it, use the silicon to lay a thick bead around the perimeter of the bag and let it cure.
i: place the molds (with the carbon fiber inside of course) into the huge bag, use a vaccuum bagger to suck out all the air and get everything nice and compressed.
j: let dry for a day or two, there you go a brand new carbon fiber piece that you made yourself! you can now use these same molds to charge fellow z enthusiasts the same price it cost you!
*the other way to do this is to skip the mold making and simply lay the carbon fiber onto the panel. remember to spray a non stick solution on the the surface of the original piece.
and then make a bag and suck out all the air like in steps h-j. the downside with this technique is that the piece will be marginally bigger than the original peice.
