The 9500ix is whats up. The GPS feature and Autolearn is the best feature hands down. It will automatically learn where the false alarms are and block out that frequency. After a few days/weeks, it will learn where all the false alarms are (such as automatic doors, and drawbridges), and automatically block them out, thus detecting the real threat of the police radar!

My family has had a cobra, some type of belltronics radar, passport escort 8500 x50, passport 9500i, passport escort 9500ix, and the valentine 1 with euro pop. Hands down the to the valentine one for how many cops it can pick up and how far away it can as well. My brother though is getting the new passport escort redline which is suppose to be just as good as the valentine one but we can't say for sure until we test it. I'd recommend the valentine one personally.

x50
I love my passport 8500 x50. All the ones recommended are pretty good. My friend loves his 9500 which has the gps feature to tell you about red light cameras and it remembers false alarms if you push the button. But bang for buck, I picked the x50 because it was under $300 and is one of the best. I saw it featured in a mag talking about gizmos and it concluded that dollar for quality the passport is the way to go. But whatever you pick, just think 3 speed traps and it's free! No reason to not have one!

Once you pick the detector, gotta go for the rearview mirror mount (no suction cups and the best view for the radar detector to have) and the invisicord so it plugs right into the powered mirror. No cords to run to the fuse box or dc outlet!

So they can add useful information to the conversation. Praise him on searching about a topic that interests him as opposed to creating a new one.
My input: I have the passport 9500ix w/GPS and such, and it has paid for itself multiple times over. I love it and would never drive without it and the invisicord and mount for the mirror. On a roadtrip through flat New Mexico with nothing but long straightaways, the thing would go off and a cop would pass us 4 miles later.... If we were both traveling the same speed towards each other that's about 8 miles of range. Color me impressed. Don't be cheap, go for a V1 or Passport.

Actually... once reading some reviews, comparing top radars, V1 is a bit outdated. Here's a link to a good review:

Definitely the passport escort 9500ix or the new passport escort redline. My family has had them all and i can tell you that the valentine one picks up 60% false alarms and i personally cant stand the beltronics unless it is the sti version. But all in all you get what you pay for.
