Whats the best bang for the buck on a Radar Detector?

Belscort's (Escort and Beltronics merged years ago) M3 platform (STi, STi-R, STi-R+, 9500CI -not the 9500ix-, Redline) has caught up to and even surpassed the V1's great radar sensitivity.
But it's not even close when it comes to laser detection. V1 must have patented a pretty good laser-detection scheme.
Still, 90% of the time, if you get alerted to police laser, it's because you are being shot with laser and the LEO already has your speed. I have received laser alerts when another car was being shot in front of me. But it's rare.

Definitely the passport escort 9500ix or the new passport escort redline. My family has had them all and i can tell you that the valentine one picks up 60% false alarms and i personally cant stand the beltronics unless it is the sti version. But all in all you get what you pay for.
However, the 9500ix's GPS filtering makes for the quietest detector I have ever owned.

The only detector that has a chance at detecting a laser shot that isn't pointed directly at the detector is the V1.

And i guess radar detectors are not really a helpful tool to avoiding cops at all times.
