Default Blacking out my own reflectors, good idea?

I'm looking to remove my OEM reflectors, and black them out with matte black paint and clear coat, then reinstall. Is this a good idea? Has anyone done this before? Does anyone have a DIY link for removing the reflectors (I heard it's a pain in the ***)?

You heard wrong. It is not a pain but VERY easy to do. And you don't need a clear coat. Clear is to help protect your paint, but since your reflector is already protected by the headlight cover, you wont need clear. I've done MANY MANY lights. Just be sure you get a 100% seal when you close them back up or you'll get LOTS of fog. That's the biggest deal with opening headlights. The oven is cake, it's the seal you have to worry about.

Reflectors... not headlights.

If you still want them to reflect, I would recommend using some VHT Nightshades on them. It's black transparent coating that will allow a majority of light to pass through each way (allowing the reflector to retain some of its reflectiveness)
